Finally got out on a good long fishing weekend. We were driving by Strawberry Saturday morning, and there sure was a lack of people, and it looked mighty good, so we stopped and fished. Went off of the Soldier Creek side. There were a lot of big old cutts crusing the shore line. Tried my best to get them to hit for quite a while. Finally I smacked one at about 14" or so. My mom got one using a #3 Silver Blue Fox(20"), my dad one on a minnow(21"), and my brother 4(16-20") on a big silver Krokodile.

Got outta there and pulled up to Brough at about 2. Set up camp then started fishing. SLOW, SLOW, SLOW!!! I was the only one catching anything. I found one little point I caught them on. All of them came in on either a size 6 Silver Panther Martin or that big old silver Krokodile. I even trolled around in my pontoon boat, set up and jigged on fish, and tried every last lure in my arsenal to no avail. Finally at night fall I hit one about 16". Keeper, to say the least.

That night I stayed out on the lake while my parents and brothers were sleeping in the tent. Nice night, to say the least. A nice little breeze kept the Mosquitoes off. Got up at 4:30 to try for a big Brownie. HA HA HA. What a joke that was. I finally had to hit my little point again with the P.M. on. Amazingly a 20" Rainbow hit. 'Nother keeper. I went back and woke my parents up. Finally they got a few, too. My dad got a 21"er, and they finished off their limits with planter bows. My fish from the night before had quite a few Crawdads on him, so after I gutted the fish, I threw out the gutts on a string. That got a whole bunch of big old Dads for the boil tonight.

At around 11 we decided that the fishing was WAY too slow to consider staying, so we headed down the road to pelican lake. I got out in the toon, my brother in a float tube, and the rest of them fished off the shore. I got a limit of big old Gills with a silver Gitzit, and countless 4-8" Bass. If I had to guess on a number, I'd say 50. Litterally. They were swarming my pontoon! My brother got a few Gills, but no bass. My dad got some tiny Gills, and one decent bass. 16" or so. At 1:30 we called it quits.

It was a nice weekend, to say the least. The weather was beautiful. The fishing was only marginal(except for Pelican. Pelican rocked!!!!!) but that's ok. I love Brough to death, even with the special regs it has now. I'd hate to say it, though, but it is no trophy water. There aren't sheer numbers of big fish in there. Most of them I marked were in the 10-18" range. Not too bad, but not trophy's, either. Oh well. I should have some pics later.

By the sounds of things you guys had a good trip! I think Pelican must have a great population of gills in there. Thanks for the report.

Pelican sure does. I wish I would have had more time to fish it... Oh well. Next time I guess.
