I am taking my two boys and a couple of friends that have not fished for years! I am relatively new to the area.
My boys are 6 and 8 I am looking for a place to take the boat and catch a bunch of fish for them and also our friends.
Would you reccomend Willard or Mantua?
Suggestions on specific places to fish and how/what to fish with would also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Both are great choices. Willard is great for Wipers using Rapalla's and Mantua can be non stop action for the kids when you get into the Bluegill. Small tube jigs with a piece of worm will work all day. Be careful at Willard if the
starts up. It can be very dangerous!

Willard would be my choice i bet you once your kids get a taste of wiper fishing they will be hooked.I troll producers black and silver with purple backs and i long line them behind the boat and i also use a side planner to keep lines from tangling.I vary speeds but the majority of the time i get my fish when i speed up and then i slow down thats when my lures get hit the majority of the time.Just a suggestion good luck wherever you go.

I do love fishing both places but if you are taking kids to fish and you really want them to enjoy the day go to Mantua.
We have had a cold snap that might turn them off a little, but the bluegill are big and plantiful up there. There is also perch and the last few times we have been up there fishing from shore we have gotten more bass than anything.
We use a small jighead and tip it with a worm. Not a whole worm just a small piece for the bluegill and perch. For some reason they don't like a big old worm on.There are some nice sized gills and perch up there. But no matter the size the gills do give a good little tug on the line for kids.
Hope you have a good day fishing. I will probably be up there Saturday but we fish from shore.

I have looked and can not seem to find out what producer lures are, or where I could buy them.
Any help?
thanks

Look at Walmart they normally have them in a box on a bottom shelf cost about $2 each.

When are you going out. I think you posted on the Utah DNR site and I said I would be glad to give you some info or show you what works if you are headed up there Sunday. Let me know.

If you get some producers a bit of advice ! Change the hooks to a bigger size it has prevented a lot of releases next to the boat.[

Good luck finding them. If you do please pm me with where you found them.
I also think Mantua is a better choice for the kids. Good luck and have fun with your boys.[cool]

We went up and fished for 3 or 4 hours. The fishing was a little slow, but we caught around 10 small LMB and a couple decent perch.
The fish did not seem to hit jigs very well. Had more success with small spinners and small lipless vibrators.
We fished the West dike with some success and also the east shore.
The boys had a good time fising catching and hanging out with dad.
