A Special thanks to RiverRat and the Dude!!!!
I now have another summer activity to look forward to.[Smile] It's within a reasonable distance too. Biggest problem - have to leave Sparky home.[Sad] The weed lines that I fish are just too far from shore and too thick to trust taking my bud with me. Sure would like to find an area where I can keep him in sight and be good kitty fishing. Oh well, life isn't always perfect. Anyways, arrived at Ut. Lake about 10:30 am, early for me, got in my tube and headed out. Weather was cool, partly cloudy, with a light breeze. Got to my first cut and promptly plopped my rig in the reeds and had to go in to unhook. Figured that that was it for my first hole and backed out. Left my bobber in the cut as I backed out just in case, No sooner did I get about 20 ft. away, under goes my bobber. Figured it was probably a muddy. Wrong! Had to finesse him out of the reeds but ended up with my first Hunt'n Cat 1, 23 1/2 in., good fight. Thru him in my fish net sack that I drag along because I wanted to bring one home for fillets. Headed along the edge fishing as I went along, got to the next cut, fished it awhile, nothing. Headed out of the cut, thru in along the reed edge a little ways out of the cut end and waited a bit and bobber said, "here we go again". This guy was different, couldn't get him up for quite some time. Obviously bigger, thru him in the netting too, about 26 in. Will release the other latter. Well, things got dead but I kept moving along the reed edges fishing for some time. Got to a section of an extended brown reed area, seem to have better luck on the edge of the green stuff, and was just pushing along headed for the green stuff and dragging my rig along. Got about half way along and just hesitated opposite a point in the reeds and let the bobber sit for about 10 sec. Wham! My bobber heads out toward the middle of the lake like a freight train. Couldn't slow him down. Figured the way it was running it was a big ol carp. Stripped off about 40 yds. of line with me chugging after him. Well this went on for quite some time and I was wondering if he was going to take me out the middle of the lake. Eventually got him to where I could see and it was another good size kitty, 26 1/2 in, and latter weighed him at 6 1/2 #. What a difference in fight. The others fought like Sherman tanks with no quit but this guy, WOW. [shocked] Thru him in the netting too and now I have a big ol drift anchor. Well, decided I'd better head back so I could beat the drive time traffic between here and Ogden. Figured, that 3 hrs. was just fine. Headed back, took my pics. of the first (Cat Hunt'n 1) and the Bobsie Twins (Cat Hunt'n 2), let two go and kept the "freight train" for fillets. Lure of choice - hangy down night crawler on a circle hook, split shot and bobber. No takes on carp meat???? Guess the don't like my old skinless stuff. Well that it folks - what a great afternoon.
