[cool][#0000ff]Ironworker and I finally got our social calendars together and worked out a morning on the water. TubeBabe came along too, and CarpPunisher played hookey from church to worship with us at the Cathedral of the Seventh Day Angler.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]TB, IW and myself were on the water shortly after 6:30...us in our tubes and IW in his toon. There was still a lingering swell coming in from the strong north wind that blew last night and the water was murky and only 67 degrees at launch. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We all fished seriously for the next hour. I lost a large bullhead at the tube and then landed the first kitty of the day a few minutes later. That was about 7:30. IW had one good hit, and that was his only shot for the whole day. TubeBabe got a bullhead and then nothing for a long time.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]CarpPunisher arrived and launched his toon about 8:30. He promptly put the hook to a 3.6 pound channel. Looked like he might have brought some luck with him. Nope. That was it for him.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I got a smaller channel cat about 9:30. Then, I got three hefty bullheads between 10 and 11. TubeBabe finally caught a nice little channel cat, about 2 pounds. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]IW did not bring anything to his toon, and he had to leave early, to take care of some family obligations. I told him I would catch a big one after he left. I did.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As CarpPunisher and I started back to the launch area, just after 11, I had a tap on my bait that was just like the previous 3 bullheads. I waited a few seconds, flipped the bail, reeled the line tight, felt some movement on the other end and set the hook. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]WHOA!. That "bullhead" had shoulders. It put the line over its back and hauled off a few yards of line against a tight drag. For a few minutes it pretty well whupped me good. I finally got it up close, as CP came up to witness the finale of the fight. It turned out to be a nice 6 pound daddy cat. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Well, since this was Fathers' Day and all, I felt it was only right to give the big dark male his well-earned release. After a couple of pics and a pucker up, I removed the hook from the corner of his mouth and sent him back to spend the rest of Fathers' Day with the wives and kids.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Just as CP was about ready to beach his toon, TubeBabe radioed that she could see his fish basket floating back in the channel where he had been fishing. His one catfish was trying to make an escape. CP hit the oars and roared off in hot pursuit. He was able to recapture the culprit and invited it home for dinner.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The water temp was up to 73 as we loaded up for home. We timed our departure perfectly. Just as we hit the beach, several PWC came roaring across the area we had been fishing and coasted up onto the shallow area right next to our vehicles. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]On the road home shortly after noon so that I could be a daddy to my kids too.[/#0000ff]

[signature]
Oh yeah!!!!!! Here i come! Tuesday morn adawns a beautiful sunrise and hungry kitties! (i hope[unimpressed][unimpressed])

[cool][#0000ff]You may have been disappointed. All that was back in your "honey hole" was bullheads. The channels are about through with the spawn and are prowling out in deeper water. But, once the water started warming up, so did the fishing.[/#0000ff]

I think that hole was fished out anyways gonna look for different spots.I think i might take tuesday off but if i do i will have to take the boat because lisa dont work and the kids are outta school. Not sure yet but it looks that way for now.

[cool]Nice report, TD. Looks like Gary had a nice adventure today. Sounds like a fun day out there, and that's cool that you let the daddy cat go on dad's day. Speaking of which, hope you had a good dad's day yourself. Sounds like the wind of last night turned off the bite a bit, but I'm glad to hear you still found some willing takers. Hope there's no North wind the day of or before the gorilla floatilla in a couple weeks. That's gonna be a fun one! Weather permitting of course...

Sounds like a great Fathers Day outing if you ask me!

[cool][#0000ff]We are getting the reservation in for the "pavillion" at LB nailed down today. We will have it from 6 AM to 10PM on the 8th. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Now, all I have to do is perfect my anti-W dance for that day.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I'll be posting an announcement later this week.[/#0000ff]

Your pictures of Utah lake quite often have a great picture of Timp. I love that mountain. I have been to the top, back when I had a little better health.[Smile]

[cool][#0000ff]I have always had a fascination for that big rock pile myself. It is majestic and unique. I DO like to include it in pics taken while fishing on Utah Lake. I have accumulated quite a collection over the years (going back to about 1961) that show Timp with varying degrees of "white hair".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Those who have climbed it or at least been around to the back side too usually have an even greater respect for its ruggedness. There is no easy way to the top.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
For sure no easy way up. There is 2 trails up. One around sundance and the other at Timponeak. I think thats the way it is spelled. I have made it up both. But that was many years ago.

[cool][#0000ff]I'm sure that is good info...for someone...not for me. My mama din't raise no fools. While I have taken on a lot more altitude than I care to remember (in MY younger years), I prefer to make most of my excursions horizontal (across the water) and not vertical (up the side of a mountain).[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have been to the top of Mount Whitney several times and have hiked the full length of the Muir Trail in the Sierras of California. I know about sheer granite walls and lots of snow. But, ya know what? I think Timp is purtier than Mt. Whitney.[/#0000ff]

I took your advice and went to LB last Saturday for carp. They were in about 6 inches of water on the south side of the first barbed-wire fence. I shot a handful, but as soon as the sun came up, they were gone.

I hung around for a while after that, but didn't see a thing. Was I in the right place?

Whitney is kinda boreing compaired to the other parts of the JMT. I still think King's Canyon is the most beautiful place on earth. I grew up fishing the King's River, mostly at Ceadar Grove and near the Roads End. Even as a 15 year old I was humbled sitting in the bottom of that canyon, fishing, being surrounded by mile high rock, towering trees, bears, mountain lions, and a thundering river.

As to the trail itself(JMT), many people don't realize its part of the Pacific Crest Trail, although being as you seem to be a "facts" man I bet you knew that Smile

I'll be 30 in two months, and I'm dissapointed that when I lived in California and was younger that I never made the attempt. Now I don't have the legs, the time, or the money to give it a go.

[cool][#0000ff]I hiked up to Vidette Meadows several times, jumping off at Cedar Grove. The Kings River really is pretty there, as well as the other scenery. Got lots of golden trout in the upper reaches of the Kings River, but never did well in the lower areas, where the road fishermen fish.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In the "olden days" the Pacific Coast Trail was not a trail as such. I was hiking the old Muir Trail before you were born...and I also hiked it after I turned 30...wimp.[/#0000ff]

Hehe. As I'm sure we'll meet up eventually, I'll let you view my legs and ankles...If you don't cringe in horror I'd be amazed. I've got more scar tissue, bone fragments, screws, and titanum plates than I like to think about. My left ankle alone looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, and my atrophied left calf leaves something to be desired as well.

At the age ripe old age of 29 and 312 days I find it hard to get out of bed in the morning.

The longest hike I've ever done was a 50 mile Yosemite trip while in the boy scouts. At that time I only had to deal with my left leg issues, which are the lingering affects of Club Foot([url "http://www.drfoot.co.uk/pictures/clubfoot_baby.jpg"]http://www.drfoot.co.uk/pictures/clubfoot_baby.jpg[/url]) from birth. I've since added my right leg injury, a leg which was broken in three places (hence the plate and 8 screws) and a dislocated ankle to add insult to injury.

I know you were just "josh'in" me, but I always have to defend my honor! Smile In my youth I would have had a fighting chance, but now I just don't recover the same. One days worth of hiking on that trail and I'd need at least a full days of elevated feet. I might finish the trail when I'm 50 at that rate, hehe.

[cool][#0000ff]They come and go as they please. The area south of the fences is usually one of the best places to find carp over several months. The area I found them on that one morning was in the shallows right in front of the facilities. A lot of times they will raft up between there and the deeper water beginning at the point of the reeds.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As you discovered, as soon as the sun hits the water, they can boogie. But, when the spawn is on, they swarm in there in great numbers when the sun warms the shallows.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]I apologize. You did not make it plain that you had some physical problems. That definitely puts a crimp on strenuous hiking, and a lot of other things too. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]My only excuse is too many years of "normal" wear and tear. I am over twice your age. I can still handle some pretty strenuous activity, but it pains me everytime I realize that I will never again see the beauty of the high mountains...at least in the same way I used to.[/#0000ff]
