I am going to be spending the next weekend out at Mead and want a little help. At the current time, I am boatless and will be camping/fishing from shore. I want to knwo if anyone has some advise or tips on the best places to go from the Boulder City area? I don't care what I catch, as long as I am catching and having a good time. Anyone have some tips?

Head Straight down the hill from Boulder City, there you'll find Boulder beach, plenty of shore fishing there, you coluld go across the dam and south on 93 about 10 miles, there you will find the turnoff to Willow beach, Rainbow Trout and Stripers can be had there.

So what is the best way to fish from shore for stripers or cats? Let the bait get to the bottom or does it need to suspend somewhere in the middle? I really want some action out there. Is it best to buy some live bait and free line it out there? What has produced strikes for people?

I highly recommend Temple Bar. Yes, it's a ways but if you want to catch a ton of stripers that's the place to go. Just in case you're not familiar with Temple Bar. It's about a 45 minute drive into AZ from Hoover Dam. Temple Bar is rarely crowded.

Early morning and day fishing - Ladder Cove, which is adjacent to Temple Bar (Southeast).

Night fishing - Shore fishing at Heron Point. You have to hike about 15 minutes but I can tell you the exact spot to go to. I've been fishing that same spot for years, and between me and a couple friends, we always manage to catch over a hundred stripers a night.

I like to rely on anchovies for semi-top water action. I use light line (6 - 8 lb test) rigged with one to two small lead ball bearing weights. Give yourself about 6-8" of line between the weights and a number 2 hook. Use a meaty square piece of anchovy on the hook. You got to use frozen or "close" to frozen bait to ensure that the bait doesn't fall off during a cast. I typically cast out about 40 feet and slow reel in the bait.

I know this is fairly primitive but I have had excellent success fishing this way at Mead. I attribute that to the fact that the anchovy gives off a strong scent. Also, once the striper bites your line, it knows you're offering the real thing (anchovy). This will have him coming back for more.

I've also used lures to catch them as well but nothing beats my system above.

Let me know if you're interested in the one spot at Heron Point.

Best regards,

Paul
