] Hi I am new to this board. My son and I live in so calif. and we usually fish the eastern sierras. This year he wants to go to Utah. I said ok lets do it! The problem is I have no idea where to go , I know he really wants to catch a tiger trout. We usually go to secluded areas with not too many people around. I would be thankful for ANY help. My son is 15 so walking in to a lake or stream is not a problem. Also we are looking at spending 3 weeks in Utah, so going to an out of the way place is ok time wise.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING!!!

One of the best places for tiger trout is Huntington Reservoir, on the top of Fairview canyon. Do a search on here for Huntington Reservoir and you can read all about it. There are also many other reservoirs in the same general area that one can fish, and the scenery is gorgeous.

Here's a few links that may prove helpful in planning a trip to Huntington Reservoir (formally Mammoth Reservoir). Huntington area is very beautiful, almost Yellowstonish in some ways, so don't forget the camera or the BUG GOOP!
Good tackle to bring for the lake include; Lures, Jake Spin a Lures in both gold and silver. For flies try, Bead Head Crystal Killers in Olive, Red, Brown, and Black as well as marbou leaches in black, and brown. A variety of wooley buggers in the same colors can also be effective. Many times trailing your larger fly with a smaller bead head nymph, such as a Pheasant Tail, or Prince Nymph can increase your success as well.
When you get tired of the lake fishing scene, there are also some excellent streams to fish nearby. Huntington Creek (one of Utah's Best, and least fished Blue Ribbon Fisheries) is great for Cutthroat, and Brown Trout. Any flies / nymphs with peacock bodies work well. Bead head Phesant Tails, and Prince Nymphs in sizes 12 and smaller are many times the ticket. As for Dry Flies; Peacock hackles, Renegades, Adams, and Grifiths Knats, in small / medium sizes work well most of the season. And later, when the Hoppers are out, Godard Cadis, Elk Hairs, and Stimulators can be great fun for surface action as well. The streams flowing out of other nearby reservoirs such as (Cleaveland, Goosberry, Miller Flat, etc) can also be very good if your willing to walk a little to get away from the easily accessed water.
