I may get a chance to head up to the Uintas later this week and fish a lake that I've never been to, Bud Lake. I have access to a 2-man rubber raft, I have a float tube, or I can fish from shore. Other than trying all 8 lures and both flies that are in my tackle box, what is the best way to know what to use? Is there a 'never fail' lure or fly that you use? How do you fish a new lake? Thanks for all the help on this one.

I just fish the Uintas with renegade, black ant, and mosquito imitating flies. Fly and a bubble with three feet of leader usually does great up there. Spinners usually do just fine up there too. I love the Uintas. Lots of fun, even if the fish are pretty small.

Stop, look, and listen to what is around you and match the hatch.[cool]

if you are familiar with the "how to" of float tubes, I'd suggest using that. Get out in the middle of the lake and drop down some simple curtail jigs, possibly tipped with bait, and do some jiggin', or maybe just let it sit there and wait for the bites. I scored SO many brook trout yesterday doing this, although I wasn't in a float tube. If this lake holds brook trout, which I think it does cuz I think I've been there, you may want to invest in some gold and silver bladed panther martins or other spinners. They oftentimes are killers on the brookies. Or, just go with the fly and bubble trick, and yes... take plenty of renegades - In my opinion its the best fly for the uinta's - and maybe some nymphs and assorted dry flies. The fish should be hungry, and arent too hard to catch. If you ain't catching, keep trying, and maybe go with some trial and error until you find the hot lure. be creative with your fishing. good luck dude.

Anthony, can you give me any pointers on the curly tail jig set up? I'm kind of stuck on spinners and would live to find a different way to catch fish. PM me if you have any advice for a panther martin only fisherman.
