Thanks for all the interest in the unorthodox catch and release of Tiger Musky post. There are alternatives to taking fish out of the fishery.
I have contacted the DWR and submitted a suggestion to put in a slot limit for Tiger Musky at pineview. 40" - 46" musky can be kept and killed, all other released.
I am thrilled that the latest record was caught by a guy who has fished for a total of 16 hours for Tigers. Pineview is one of the best Tiger Musky fisheries in the world, and I would like to do my part to keep it that way, therefore the suggestion.

I'm wondering why you'd advocate, or allow 40 - 46'' fish to be kept, but protect anything that gets bigger? They're not going to spawn. They are already getting old. That's why the DWR allows the harvest that they do. Are we going to let the few fish that got over the 46" mark die of old age? Why? They aren't going to get much bigger than that anyway.

I think the point trying to be made is the fact that we have one of the greatest if not the greatest Tiger fishing holes right in our back yard. We may be simply taking it for granted. Maybe they can even get larger and we will never know if we don't protect some of the larger ones. Pineview is a bit of an anomaly.
There aren't many destinations where you can go out and catch 4 Tiger Musky in a day and most likely have at least one over 40". I wonder what it's potential really is?

I'd rather see just increasing the minimum size that you can keep from 40" to maybe 42" or 45" or whatever # is found to be most prudent (maybe 40" already IS that #, I don't know).

I kept a 43" tiger 4 years ago because it would not revive after 30 minutes. I ate it and will never bother with it again. They taste like sh**. I don't know about a smaller one, but i will not keep another unless it beats the record. YES I WILL KEEP A FISH IF IT IS A RECORD! Like so many other comments about being at the end of their life span, i don't think it hurts anything by taking a few out. I would not advise all 40+"ers being kept, but a trophy fish to someone is special if they have the proper intent on keeping and mounting it. My 2 cents. If you don't like it, OH WELL!

Believe it or not, if you talk to the fish biologist for this area, I think you will hear him say that alot of these big fish die after being released any way do to the strain of the fight. We have been told that in the past by a certain biologist. [

I have heard the same on the mortality thing. I think you should always bring them in as fast as possible and take your time reviving them if it is a hot day. I know they grow over 50" in there. It sure would be cool to one day hold one over 55"

If you catch a trophy fish, and the law allows you to keep, then by all means KEEP IT! SHOW IT OFF. BE PROUD OF IT. Don't let it go, because some selfish dude on the internet thinks that you need to let it go for "others" to enjoy as well. That fish has been enjoyed by others already.
It's up to you to decide what a trophy is. Trophies for one person may be different than another. If you commonly catch 40" Musky, then a 40" Musky is no trophy. But if you've never caught a fish over 30", and you catch a 40+" Musky -- keept it. Congratulations on a well deserved trophy!

I hope to some day fish with you. At that time you can keep every fish you want that is legal. I won't say a thing. In fact I will catch and donate my limit to you if it is more of a put and take fishery.

Expecting your average fisherman to release the fish of a life-time is ludicrous. You'll never see, or hear, me complain about a fisherman doing something legal.
I rarely keep fish. Brook trout, and splake are about the only fish I ever keep. But, if I caught a 40" musky -- you bet I'd keep it.
