UPDATED BY PAT ON FRIDAY, July 14th,
2006
STRIPED BASS- Theres still some good sized bass hanging around the
reefs adjacent to the Connecticut River. Theres a lot of hickory shad and
bunker in random schools from Cornfield Point to Hatchetts. Theres no
strict pattern to their whereabouts. Another bid for conserving large
bass- treble hooks will result in more hookups and also more damaging
deeply hooked fish- large circle hooks will do less damage.
The Race and Plum Gut are almost as good as last week, with bass
becoming more tide dependent.
Surface feeding school bass have been showing up randomly at Hatchetts
and the River Mouth again this week, but less than last week.
BLUEFISH- Mixed sizes of blues taken a good hold at the Race and Plum
Gut, again being more tide dependent than last week, Race on the ebb
and Gut on the flood. Theres also some small blues on the surface at
slack tide at the Race.
Great Island has some blues on the surface at dusk and dawn hitting
poppers. Theres still schools of small blues roaming mid Sound not to be
with schools of hickory shad also roaming.
FLUKE- The ratio of shorts to keepers is improving however the numbers
overall are decreasing. The best results are still coming from
Misquamicut, with a few good reports from Fishers and the Ruins. Locally the
catches from the River and Long Sand Shoal are still shorts with an
occasional keeper.
PORGIES- Some better reports this week as more effort was put in.
Numbers are still down and sizes are up. Hatchetts and Bartletts are still
the best bets.
BLACKFISH- Few reports came in this week again.
BLUE CRABS- Some good reports came in from North Cove and the Oyster
River. A mixture of shorts and keepers but very good numbers. All
indications point to a good crab year.
HOURS- This week we'll be open Monday through Friday from 6am to 7pm.
Weekends from 4am to 6pm.
