i decided to go spend a night on strawberry and see what goes on during a full moon. the fish were really jumping thurday night until it got dark. it was pitch black, and the feeding stopped. we had been catching a few on flies, but once it was dark it ended. so, we set up our sleeping bags and got settled in for a night on the boat. about 11 or so the full moon came out. it was really bright! and then the feeding started back up. they splashed and fed all night long and into the morning. my brother stayed up pretty late and caught some on wolly buggers. i slept. well, the next days fishing wasnt nearly as good as the berry was a week ago for us. i think i can finally blame the moon! they fed all night and just werent too active during the day. next time i want to day fish i'll avoid the moon. but, for night fishing, i think i'll wait for the full moon. that was an awesome display to see them hit a fly and come clear out of the water... in the moonlight. (of course i slept during a lot of the action!)

When I fished the Berry at night in a float tube , I always did it with no moon and some nights were quite productive . Best time ever was at ice out at night . Full moon never has impressed me . Picked up 3 kokes , 2 bows and zillion cutts and had a chub on today or should I say yesterday [cool]. Did you find any kokes in your travels on the Berry ?

Went to strawberry Saturday with PoloKid,TheKillerBee and Parasite. Fished it all day verticial jigging from 7:00am-7:00pm. The best jiggs where 3" tubes in watermelon and Maniacs 3" crawdad grubs. The morning was alittle tough but we did manage to hook into a couple dozen over by the knolls and close to the ladders. The ladders area was holding alot of planter cutts so we relocated north of mudcreek hoping to get into some faster fishing and bigger fish. It turned out to be a good move, we where getting alot of hook ups in this area. It made me laugh when the cutts where hitting light and you could hear everones pole whistling threw the air from missed hook sets. Ended up with around 80 for the day with only one over the slot caught by Parisite measuring in at 22.5". Heres a couple photos of HellsAngler's koke and a cutt caught on a maniac 3" grub.

I'm not sure what Randy caught the koke on, he should chime in on that.

Mike,
Glad you finally found them in the afternoon and had a great day. It interesting that you did better on darker colors. I wonder if the cutts are keying more in on crawdads then minnows right now?Last tuesday I even tried watermelon color jigs and it didn't help. Must of been the full moon![Wink] Thanks again for the quick pineview trip on friday night, had a blast!

It was caught on a chartreuse needlefish with double sling blades , but I been known to catch them on jigs too .

You are welcome. Too bad the muskie didn't have a little more size to him and shook himself loose close to the boat but for the short time we where on the water we where lucky to hook up, at least the muskie is still alive and well .

we didnt get any kokes this time. we fished where we normally do pick up a few, but only got around 30 cutts and one bow. we trolled until noon and then left. sounds like we should have stuck around for the afternoon. i guess they got there appetites back! all well.

Bkidder , just one more question for ya . You ever catch a koke at night ? I have once casting from shore but only one so I bet it is not to effective . But you never know . Chartreuse is the color for me lately on Kokes up there . I've tried pinks , and reds colors but only hooked cutts on them at the Berry Now I just hope I can find them in august . July has always been fairly easy to find them up there but I've never hooked one in august . Riggers now so I hope to find them this year . Still looking for that 20"+ Koke . Did hear some talk on the VHF radio of some one with a big Koke saturday morning .

to be honest ive only night fished a couple of times. the other night we were in a 15 foot deep bay and fly fishing for cutts that were jumping and rolling all around us. i dont think there were too many kokes in there! i imagine night fishing for kokes would be tough this time of year because the plankton wont be gathered up like it is during light hours. this means the kokes will be spread out and not feeding as much. (at least i assume) when they arent feeding they arent as aggressive. perhaps when they are in there aggressive spawn mode they could be irritated into the night? maybey someone on the board can chime in... if theyve tried this.
