well, I took the chance and headed to Pineview for the weekend with the fam (wife, baby and mom) so they could stay in the condo while I did early morn and late eve fishing. I got but butt handed to me by the lake....I have never worked so hard for so few fish.
I am from Wyoming and just started fishing Utah (as I have lived here for a few years) last tuesday (7/18). I fished friday eve, sat morn, sat eve and sun morn. I mainly stayed in the cemetary point on the south side of it going all the way down and around into the backwaters (essentially trolling the point all the way past where all of the boats were going into a bay, around the next point all the way down and into the very bak shallows.
I did find a lot of fish in 30' of water at about 15-22' on the south side of cemetary point on down all the way to where there is a bay (I assume with a boat dock by the number of boats going in there).
I trolled EVERYTHING in the tacklebox on the downriggers at 15-25' and could not get anything at all to hit on saturday morn or evening. I tried rapalas, dodgers with squid, cowbells, jigging, powerbait minnows, spinners...you name it. I have no idea what kind of fish there were in there suspended but they were thick just south of the buoy (orange one next to the small patch of bushes "island"). I fished them hard for 3hrs and nothing.
I did manage to catch a 46.5" musky on friday evening downrigging and 15' (my first one), then sat morn a 32" musky on a jointed perch rapala and sunday morn an nice 16.5" smally on a joined fire tiger rapala.
I really need some lessons on fishing in Utah as I have no idea where and how....anyone looking to teach me a little I am more than willing to let them hop on in the boat with me (have an 06 21' boat with T8yama and 337 lowrance). PLEASE share some words of wisdom with me - I am not picky on type of fish - just like to do some catching. I will head to about any lake around...thank you in advance

If you boated a 46" musky you doing fine. I've fished Pineview for years and never caught anything like that.

As far as lessons, I'm not the one to help there, but there are plenty of guys on this site who fish Pineview lots who will be happy to help. Good job, 46 musky, I can only wish.

What he said, if you caught 2 muskies in 3 days in July, you could be giving lessons. You expect to much.
If you want fast and furious then try Willard for wipers or Strawberry for Cutts.

I think I may head for the "berry" tomorrow then to try that - cutts. Any words of advice before I head out early tomorrow morn?
The part that frustrated me the most was the 1000+ fish on the fider on the south side of cemetary point in 30' of water I couldn;t get one blooooody bite out of....no matter what I did.

Tons of posts about the Berry. read all of them on this page and you'll have a good idea of where to go and what to do.
Same for willard. If your still at Pineview Willard is much closer than the Berry to you. Down the canyon, 15 miles North and your there. If you've never fished "Boiling fish" your in for an exciting treat.

I am in Draper so looking for a place that is a reasonable distance from here for good fishing.
What do you use to catch the wipers? What is average size?

Get on the pond around 4 pm and head north to the feedlot area and the power lines and watch for the birds and fish to alert you to the action. Once you are in casting distance of a boil, throw a blue/silver castmaster or a white plastic about 3" or a shad immitating crank just past the fish and reel fairly fast. If you are lucky and hit a boil right you can boat 20+ wipers in a half hour. I hope this helps and good luck.

Size up to 24" many 16" to 20" fish. Hardest fighting 16" fish I've ever caught. Good eating too. 1 18" will make about 6 fish taco's.
Easy pull from Draper, no hills, all highway. North of Ogden by about 15 miles. Use the South park for fishing. There are 3 launch ramps about 3 wide each compared to a single 3 wide at the North marina.
Coming out of the South marina the feedlot is on the right. Follow the dike east to it. You'll see the grain silo over the dyke. Another popular spot is the oppisite corner, called the "light pole".

If your gatting no action but can see boils troll around the area, wipers seem to like it fast, 3 mph is not a problem for them to hit. I have run as fast as 4.5 and wham.
There are also walleyes and kitties to play with. They hang out under the boils picking up shad scraps. A frozen minnow (no shad, their illegal to possess) dead drifted on the bottom after the boil is over does well for me on the Kitties and eyes.

Edit, Also bring shade and plenty of water it's hot out there. If Thunderstorms come up, run, do not troll to the marina. You are the tallest thing for 10 miles on that lake. Better to sit it out in the truck and go back out after it is over than get hit by lightening. Willard is also fairly shallow, 20' mostly and can get rough in a big wind.
