Hit the lower bottom of provo canyon caught 3 browns on a sinking brown rapala. The biggest around 16 inches which took my rapala as it was flopping around at my feet as i was unhooking him. Then hit Deer Creek west side by the dam. Worked the shoreline with a mepps spinner nailed them caught 30 only 5 bigger than 8 inches. But the big surprise was the 15 1/2 inch brute i caught. Biggest i have ever caught at deer creek as far as bass go. My friends were trout fishing near the dam and caught 7 trout on power bait ranging from 14-17 inches. They caught 5 of them in one hour, the last hour only produced 2. Overall good day fishing, little disappointed in how small the smallies were. Anyone know how to specifically target the larger bass their? Maybe I will have to wait till fall I seem to catch better basss when they move in closer to shore.

Nice report!

The problem at DC is that there are bajillians of tiny smallies, and very few bigger ones. I would suspect that you caught most of the small ones right up near shore, or not very far out.

I would also suspect that the bigger ones are hanging out in slightly deeper water. Use bigger baits to catch bigger bass.

I have caught big largemouth by the island, when you could walk out onto it in lower water years, with a 4" smoke sparkle senko. Also caught some average smallies around 10". Rigged it wacky style.

Hope that helps.
