My son wants to take his boat to Bear Lake and we need some pointers on fishing there for Mac's and Cut's.
He has down riggers and a finder but we are new to using a boat and all the gear.
Please help us be prepared so that we will have a chance to catch something up there.
Thanks, DKS.

So what's the deal! Nobody fishing at Bear Lake anymore?
Please PM me if you don't want everyone to see your tips.
General locations and tackle is all I'm asking for.

[red] I don't usually start going up there to fish until I know that the Power Patrol has pretty much given up for the year. At least most of them, I'll start going up myself earlier this year. [/red]
[#ff0000] I'm thinking around early October.[/#ff0000]

[red] I usually ride around a bit and try to find groups of fish on the finder before I put a line out. Cisco is the bait that I use , but I am more for jigging than anything. I am going to spend more time trolling this year. But not sure about what type of rig I'm going to use. Bodine 11 would be a good one to ask this question.[/red]

Thanks for the help. It looks like the Bear is a fall fishing water. I will wait till then and watch for reports. PS, I did get your PM but there wasn't a lot of info so I am still looking for more. Thanks again, DKS.

DKS,

Me and a friend went out today and I will say that it will be my last trip of the summer. No bites, and boats everywhere. You have got some good advice from the others here. October is absolutely the best time to fish bear lake. I think I am going to keep trying for a muskie for the rest of the summer.

I've had some of my best luck from the middle of September to ice on. Spring is also a good time to fish. I don't jig, used to but I Personally have come to find out that I catch more fish using downriggers. I run the lure around 15-20 feet behind the ball and keep the lure as close to bottom as possible. I won't even start to fish the Bear until after labor day. (I don't play well with others). It is a total zoo until then.[unsure]

Thanks for all your help. I will plan on fishing the Bear in Oct for now. I will watch for posts and ask more questions as Oct gets closer, DKS.
