[cool][#0000ff]Weather forecast was iffy, but I committed to joining Ocean at Lincoln Beach this morning. Unfortunately, his daughter had an accident and he had to back out. TubeBabe had "things to do" but I had already loaded the car and thawed the bait so I headed south all by my own self.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There was no sunrise at dawn. Pretty much total cloud cover. Light sprinkles too. Lots of midges took advantage of the calm conditions. Great breakfast of little winged goodies.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Launched about 7 am from the end of the south jetty. Water level has dropped about two feet from the high water mark and there is a nice gravel shelf for launching tubes. Water temp was 78, with just a bit of a south breeze.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Started out by tossing some small plastics for white bass. They cooperated and I released several before heading over to the kitty area. Put my first channel cat in the basket about 7:25. Released several more, thinking I did not need more than a couple for us and my next door neighbor...who went bonkers over my kitty krispies Saturday night.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The south breeze changed back and forth from an east breeze to a west breeze. Cool. I could move back and forth over my fishing area without having to move a fin. I dragged a minnow on one rod and casted plastics with the other. Got a bunch of small whities. Then, I had a thump that turned into something MUCH larger. Screamed line off the drag. Turned out to be a 26" (8.5#) carp. In the basket for bait. He had sucked in the little chartreuse plastic just like he knew what he was doing.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I also caught a big 10 pound carp on a minnow being fished for cats. I was sure I had Moby Kitty on for a few minutes. Surprise, surprise.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Caught quite a few cats. Most were small for Lincoln Beach...under 16". I wondered if I had accidentally ended up at Willard. I ended up keeping 4 in the 3# range. I also got one mudder that wrapped his mouth around a big minnow. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Several items of interest. I heard a lot of splashing in the shallows early and thought the carp were working. Turns out it was one of the aquatic cows that come out to graze on the reed tops. Later, however, when I filleted the two carp for bait, I found that they were both egg-laden unspawned females.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also, the entire hillside to the west of Lincoln Beach is black. Looks like some July fireworks got away and torched it. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]About 11 AM the dreaded north wind came up. No more catfish bites and the waves started building. I kicked back toward the jetty, and some shelter from the waves. Stayed a half hour or so before getting out to play with some more whities. Fun, fun.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There were a couple of white bass "harvesters" on the bank, right where I parked and needed to get out. They were not going to move. So, I just muscled my way through their bobbers and over their gear and loaded my stuff in my car. They were catching mostly the small whites but they did bring in a couple of decent ones too (see pic).[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]By the time I had overworked the fish cleaning station and headed for home, the wavees were really coming in from the north wind.[/#0000ff]
