[cool][#0000ff]Weather forecast was iffy, but I committed to joining Ocean at Lincoln Beach this morning. Unfortunately, his daughter had an accident and he had to back out. TubeBabe had "things to do" but I had already loaded the car and thawed the bait so I headed south all by my own self.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There was no sunrise at dawn. Pretty much total cloud cover. Light sprinkles too. Lots of midges took advantage of the calm conditions. Great breakfast of little winged goodies.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Launched about 7 am from the end of the south jetty. Water level has dropped about two feet from the high water mark and there is a nice gravel shelf for launching tubes. Water temp was 78, with just a bit of a south breeze.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Started out by tossing some small plastics for white bass. They cooperated and I released several before heading over to the kitty area. Put my first channel cat in the basket about 7:25. Released several more, thinking I did not need more than a couple for us and my next door neighbor...who went bonkers over my kitty krispies Saturday night.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The south breeze changed back and forth from an east breeze to a west breeze. Cool. I could move back and forth over my fishing area without having to move a fin. I dragged a minnow on one rod and casted plastics with the other. Got a bunch of small whities. Then, I had a thump that turned into something MUCH larger. Screamed line off the drag. Turned out to be a 26" (8.5#) carp. In the basket for bait. He had sucked in the little chartreuse plastic just like he knew what he was doing.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I also caught a big 10 pound carp on a minnow being fished for cats. I was sure I had Moby Kitty on for a few minutes. Surprise, surprise.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Caught quite a few cats. Most were small for Lincoln Beach...under 16". I wondered if I had accidentally ended up at Willard. I ended up keeping 4 in the 3# range. I also got one mudder that wrapped his mouth around a big minnow. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Several items of interest. I heard a lot of splashing in the shallows early and thought the carp were working. Turns out it was one of the aquatic cows that come out to graze on the reed tops. Later, however, when I filleted the two carp for bait, I found that they were both egg-laden unspawned females.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also, the entire hillside to the west of Lincoln Beach is black. Looks like some July fireworks got away and torched it. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]About 11 AM the dreaded north wind came up. No more catfish bites and the waves started building. I kicked back toward the jetty, and some shelter from the waves. Stayed a half hour or so before getting out to play with some more whities. Fun, fun.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There were a couple of white bass "harvesters" on the bank, right where I parked and needed to get out. They were not going to move. So, I just muscled my way through their bobbers and over their gear and loaded my stuff in my car. They were catching mostly the small whites but they did bring in a couple of decent ones too (see pic).[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]By the time I had overworked the fish cleaning station and headed for home, the wavees were really coming in from the north wind.[/#0000ff]

great report dude. i hope ocean's daughter is alright.
sounds like you had a blast, like always.
where's the pictures. [cool]

[cool][#0000ff]Patience, my son. You know I never post a report without pictures. But, I have learned to post the written part before the pics. I have had a couple of complete (long) posts disappear before. Silly BFT.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
Nice report. Sorry you had to go by yourself. If I was off during the week I would invite myself.

Maybe we can hook up on a weekend on the west side.

i figured there was a method to your madness.
lmao [cool]

[#0000ff][size 1]Been there done that. The most recent frustrating experience was jsut last Saturday. I have found (I forget sometimes) it much safer, when making a lengthy post, to type it first in Word and then copy and paste.[/size][/#0000ff]

Nice work Pat. By the looks of things, the weather didn't affect the smaller fishies anyways. Thanks for the report.

Good to see it turned out good with the weather and all. I see you ended up with a new supply or kittie bait. When are you going to cook some kittie bait for eaten? [Wink] Looking forward to a LB get together when you're not so busy doing all these other ventures. Went to Mantua aon the spur of the moment for a quick afternoon trip with Sparky and must have caught over 20 bass in the 10-13 in. range. Sparky and I had a ball. [Smile] Weather was windy and rainy when we fot there, cleared up and good up until the time we left.
Leaky
Looks like you had a great day.
I keep taking my camera with me and try to duplicate your pictures.
My camera just doesn't seem to take to quality of your pictures.
Your pictures of the clouds and the weather are very good, I have used one or two as the background on my desktops for a time.
Thanks for the report and the great pictures.

Well ya know,, everday cant be filled with cold beer and popsicles.. Some times a feller even has to put up with those dang fish pestering his fishing line.. Better luck next time ol'e buddy..

[cool][#0000ff]Thanks. Glad you like the pics. I don't use a high end camera...it's an Olympus D-550. But, it takes decent pics. The big help to me is the ACD See photo program I have. It allows cropping, sizing and photo enhancement without having a degree in pictureology.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have been a diligent if not professional photographer for many years. I used to shoot lots of slides as well as print film. Really a lot less expensive to use digital, but I sometimes miss my lenses and the creative stuff they let you do.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]You're right. Sometimes those pesky fish ruin a completely good day of relaxin' and contemplatin' the universe. Oh well, I guess they need exercise too.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Are you about ready for a SERIOUS cold snap...one that will put a hard deck on Da Gorge? Sorry. Ya gotta wait at least a couple of weeks. At least.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
My friend I'm aways ready for the cold cappin' at F/G or anywhere..

Some seem to believe I'm a bit of an Hard Top two short fanatic.. Strangely I do see it...

Hey TD-
That Carp is a real beauty. I had a question. What kind of minnow is that witht he picture of the bullhead? That's a heafy minnow, how big are the minnows you generally use?
[signature]
[#505000]It looks like a large chub minnow if I'm not mistaken. I usually use chub minnows of about the same size. I rarely use a whole one those I cut em in half to release some smelly chub goodness into the water. That and nobody can accuse me of using live bait. I use em in the 6-8 inch range.[/#505000]
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]The kinky carp guy got it right. Chub minnow. I usually try to take two or three sizes. Strangely, on some days they want a whole large one...or small one. Yesterday I was getting "pop and drop" on whole minnows of any size so I tried the half minnows and BINGO.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sometimes I use a whole minnow and if I do not get bit after while I will bring it in and "swiss cheese" it with the point of my knife. Poking holes in it not only deflates the sometimes pesky air bladder but lets more of that heavenly chub ambrosia leak into the water.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Just for the record, I have caught both my biggest and smallest channel cats this year on BIG chub minnows...over 6 inches. The biggest thus far was 9 pounds and the smallest was barely 12 inches. I somehow managed to hook the little tyke without him getting the whole minnow down. But, he was ambitious.[/#0000ff]

Glad you got some kitties and didnt get blown all the way to american fork! [Tongue] We hit bird island saturday and white bass were pestering us.So we hit the reeds by benjamin slough and got harrased by more whities. Then went by the 'L" and the same.Went through 2 dozen minnows and no cats .So we switched to spinners and must have had 60 plus white bass.Kept 8 for dinner.Sam is gettting better she started walking on her own today and the swelling on the side of her head has gone done considerably.I didnt tell you what happened but she got thrown about 10 feet in the air sunday and came down on the side of her head and this big truck tire that weighs about 500 lbs fell on both her feet.I cant beleive i lifted the tire by myself.I never beleived it when i heard of people lifting cars by themselves but now i do. When i saw my daughters life in danger the adrenaline kicked in !I lifted the tire while lisa pulled her out.At that moment the tire to me didnt even feel heavy. After that i couldnt even lift her up to put her in the car because the adrenaline rush was gone.Luckily a couple was passing by and helped me put her in the car.The x-rays showed no skull or leg fractures .Wish i could have gone out with ya but theres always next time.

[cool][#0000ff]That is some scary stuff about Sam. It is amazing what someone can do in those circumstances. I have witnessed it firsthand when a cousin in Idaho was pinned to a metal tractor seat by a broken steel-tined hay rack. It fell straight down and almost skewered his body. It ran down through his leg and the seat. My uncle (who did not weigh over 140 pounds) pulled the heavy piece of equipment up out of the seat and literally threw it several feet from the tractor before carrying my cousin to the truck and then to the hospital. My other cousin and I together could not lift that piece of equipment off the ground.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Our best wishes for Sam. Glad she was not hurt any worse than she was.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also sorry you didn't make it to our fishing meetup, but there will be other times.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]By the way, do you drive a monster truck? A 500 pound tire is a biggun.[/#0000ff]
