So I posted a thread on the BFT Montana page, but it seems that we are lacking members up that way. So I figured maybe a few of you down here might know about the area. I am living in Utah for now, but am headed up to the Ruby River, near Twin Bridges and Dillon Montana. We have a connection to some private stretches of the Ruby River. I have heard that it's good, but researching it online I hear more about the Madison and Beaverhead, which are nearby.

My questions are: Has anyone fished the Ruby? Do you think the reason there's not a lot of hype/talk online about the Ruby, is because it's mostly on Private Land, therefore, it isn't fished a lot, hence the lack of positive reports? Or, while we're already making the trip up there, would you recommend that we use our time to fish the more popular rivers of the area?

Being that my brothers and I are from Washington and Canada, we are not completely familiar with the bugs in the area. Do you know what hatches we can expect? We will be there in two weekends.

Any info on the area would be really appreciated. No fish will be harvested, from any of the rivers. We are big believers in Catch and Release.

Thanks!

Mike Navidomskis is a fly fishing instructor.

I'm signed up for his class that starts in a month or so.

I noticed on his site that he makes references to the Ruby (just check all over the site and it talks a little about it).

There is also an e mail address and a phone number.

He taught me history at Davis High in Utah--I'm sure he'd be willing to give you some advice about the Ruby.
the ruby is a rather small river but it does have some nice sized fish in it. I don't think it gets the hype because it is too small to float. therefore if a guy is going that far to fish, they like to try for the big fish on the beverhead, big hole or madison. That makes the ruby an after thought when you have a couple spare hours after a major river run. the last time I was there there was a White tail deer behind every bush! Green Caddis larva, sow bugs, scuds are some of the patterns that will do you well.
