No full blown report. I'm too dang tired. Left for Oregon a couple weeks a go. Fished the Deschutes on the way up. Long story short 14 smallish Redbands.
Headed to Bandon for five days full of fishing. Har-De-Har-Har. Weather went south after the first day.
BUT... I gotta go fishing with Brent one day. Combo Salmon/Bottomfish. 10 hours at sea. It was awesome. I limitted on Chinooks, the biggest 25lbs. Also the largest salmon caught on the boat. Wayne got a Blackmouth on his boat that went 48lbs. Sucker.
After that we went in for some bottom action. First drop in 110 feet of water produced a 27lb. Halibut. Nice fish on light gear. A few drifts and a couple big Vermillions later I hooked a head shaker. Keeper 31" Ling. Next drift I popped another ling. This one was smaller. But on the way up it got quite heavy.
Got it to the surface after quite a good battle. A 48-50" Ling had taken the 24"er up to the gillplate. He did something unheard of with hitch-hiker ling cod, though; He let go. I sat there dropping a keeper ling trying to get him to bite again, but he never did. Dangit. He woulda been another 50.
Finally finished the day out with a limit of Blacks, Vermillions, Coppers, Blues and Cabbies. My mom poped a 38" ling off of a black rockfish. Dang fish were hungry. 'Specially the lings. They'll eat anything.
Next four days the wind never stopped, the seas never let up, and we were S.O.L. Seas were pushing 8-10 with 12' rollers. On the Coquille bar it was pushing 14' breakers with the occassional one up to 18'. Wind was 25-30. Kinda cool to see the Coast Guard out there playing in the surf, but it sucked because that ended our bottom, halibut and tuna trips we had planned. Oh well. We've got another trip planned for September already.
Headed to Newport. Crabbing was phenominal from the Embarcadero dock. I limited in 2 hours flat. A good portion of the crab were 8" across the shell. Absolutly amazing. After 3 days we limited with 24 Dungeness for 6 people, at 144 crab. Now let me tell ya, that filled a cooler. Well, actually two, if you want to get technical...
Fishing was pretty good for bigger fish. 12" Rockfish were common. Those boys on 4# line and an ultra light rod really put up a tussle. A few went 18" or better, like the one I have a pic of. The lings bit the last couple days, too. I nailed two around 6 A.M. yesterday before we left Newport. Nice 27-28"ers. Fought like heck on 6# line. Let me tell ya, the muskie I got a few weeks ago didn't compair. These guys were muskie with bigger teeth on steroids. Thank goodness for big nets! lol
So I guess that's all there is to say about that. It was a great trip desppite the off weather. That's ok, though. September 1st is going to come pretty dang quick. Near-Shore Halibut combined with Bottom, and a long run Halibut/Tuna Combo. It's gonna be great.
Let me just finish here with a shameless plug for the guys(and I might add ONLY guys) I fished with: Prowler Charters, out of Bandon, Oregon. Amazing guys, great to go with, great prices, great catches... What more can you ask for? I went with Brent on the Barbara K this trip, but I can tell you from experience Ken and Wayne are both even better. Give it a try. They honestly give Alaska a run for it's money.
I guess that IS it(finally... lol). Here's a few pictures...
