I have a 2004 mercury 40 hp two stroke that has a few problems. The motor starts right up first thing in the morning and it gets my boat up to 18 mph and seems like its runs great. After trolling all day with my little 9.9 hp 4-stroke, the 40 hp gas ball has lost its pressure. I have to pump it up several times to get pressure. I try for a couple of minutes to start it with out the choke and then it starts, but it wont idle. I have to immediatly put it in gear and give it gas to get the boat going or the motor dies, if it dies I can't get the motor to start again. Once the motor is running the top speed I get is just over 10 mph, and my rpm's never exceed 4000. To me it sounds like my problem is a vapor lock. Anyone know for sure what the problem is from the above description. How do I fix a vapor lock problem if that is what it is. Thanks

If the pump ball is loosing presure that fast you might have a leak some where in the gas line system. maybe a float level problem also. later chuck
