[cool][#0000ff]It has been tough to fish Deer Creek lately. The power squadron hits the water at daybreak, even during the weekend. There are water skiers and PWC's "running the banks" before fishermen get a chance to start fishing along them.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But...on those rare mornings when you can get out early enough...or fish diligently enough...you can catch a few fish. Just be prepared to go deep for trout. Use your sonar to find them (usually over 30 feet about now) and then use lead core or downriggers to get your lures down to them. The old standard pop gear and worm has been getting some rainbows. Mostly under 16" but some up to 20".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There are lots of small smallmouth all around the shoreline. They will hit almost any small jigs or spinners in water from 6' to 15' deep. Use drop shot plastics in deeper water for the larger fish. Use crawdad colors, smoke sparkle, white, purple or chartreuse. Small tube jigs and grubs in the same colors, on jig heads, will also score some fish. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Not many perch (as usual), but there are some in the brushy areas by Charleston.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Walleyes have been scarce, but some guys are scoring a few on the old worm harness, dragged at "paint-drying" speed. The water has warmed up past their ideal comfort zone, so they are not as shallow or active as they were in mid June.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Have had a couple of reports of early morning surface action on trout in Walsburg Bay and between the Island and Rainbow Bay. Had one report of some nice rainbows on bubble and fly after dark and before sunrise. Big black flies, like wooly buggers. This time of year the trout do often feed on top after dark.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Good luck and take plenty of skier repellent.[/#0000ff]

[] "Skier repellent". Hey Pat, would that be the same as a bucket of rocks and a Wrist Rocket?

Just to add ro TDs post. The eyes have been playin very early in the am. "Paint Dryin speed" is what it has been takin. Most success has been near the inlet by Charleston and following the river bottom through the flats. Early means 2 hours before day break. Sonar is a must that early as you will not be able to see land marks. The lake is droping now and what use to be 6/8 foot of water is now only inches deep. Hope this helps and good luck. BTW don't be afaird to attach a minnow to that worm harness.

[cool][#0000ff]Options are always extra, but you pay me enough and I will get the PVC for some surface to surface missile tubes. I'll even hook you up with Dick Cheney's surplus store for some "recycled" missiles.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sorry, but torpedo tubes are so 20th century. You gotta get with it.[/#0000ff]

[red] Ok, Ok, I need to get with the program. If Cheney is involved either they are way over priced, or didn't work to begin with.[/red]
