I plan on taking my three boys out for an over-nighter before school begins and they have been begging me to take them fishing. Anyone know of a place close to the Ogden area that has good fishing and camping? I would like for them to catch some fish, so any help would be great. My boys are 10,8,5 so their patience is short. Thanks. PM's would be great.

I would say mantua. There is a fairly nice campground there and it is within walking distance of the water. Use a small jig under a bobber and a tiny piece of worm and they should get tired of catching fish. Hope this helps. There is really nowhere else that is any good right now that is close to ogden.[cool]

You might consider Mill Hollow. There is a forest service campground right at the lake and free camping further up the canyon. Everyone there seems to catch fish. There are rainbows, albinos, tigers, and brookies. Bait(worms, eggs, pb), flies, and lures all work.

Where is Mill hollow?

Mill Hollow is a small reservoir located South East of Kamas. Go South through Kamas to Woodland. From Woodland go East several miles to the Mill Hollow turn off. Go up a dirt road about 5 miles to the reservoir.
The last that I heard, the camp ground was closed.
In the same general area, you may want to try Mirror Lake or Trial Lake. Both are East of Kamas on the senic Mirror Lake Highway.

I have to say I am with lunkerhunter2 on this. Mantua is really good for kids. If you have a small raft or boat you can find a little hole in the mat of weeds and stay their all day. My kids like to watch the fish under the boat and get excited if they can watch the fish take their bait.
You will get a few good sized perch and bluegill and lots of small ones. It makes it easy to teach little ones about conservation and not keeping everything you catch. My kids don't blink a eye when I throw back their fish they just love to reel them in. We keep what we can eat but throw back lots of fish.

Trial Lake is a great choice. Camping right on the lake. Lots of fish rainbows, brookies, albinos and tigers. Just up their last week for 1/2 day caught lots of fish using flies and lures. Shore people was catching fish using power bait, salmon eggs and worms. Lots to do in area. Many other lakes right of the paved road.
