Hi all,
I have a rare opportunity in my life to have Thursday 8/10 off from work. And it also appears that the weather will cooperate. I've had good success at Strawberry lately, and I've been down and experienced the White Bass at Utah Lake. I'm kind of hoping for a change of scenery and different species of fish. I'll be in my boat, with my cousin and my daughter. We are planning on leaving at dark-thirty in the early a.m., and am willing to go up to 100 miles or so for a good fishing trip.
Based on either personal recent experience, or word of mouth, hunch, etc, where would you go this Thursday?
A. Jordanelle for some smallies and maybe some troutskis?
B. Pineview for some smallies and maybe some Tiger Muskies?
C. Willard for some Wiper action (I've been shellacked there this year so far...)
D. Huntington/E-lake for some Tiger Troutskis and Jellystone cuts?
D. Or would you just go back up to Strawberry where you know you will catch a lot of big cuts?

I wish Lake Powell were closer, and it were spring again. It would be a no brainer. And by the way, whats up with Willard this year? I can count the Wipers on ONE HAND that I've caught all year...and its not because I haven't tried...I've been there at least 6 times!

If anyone knows of a good place to go this time of the year, please reply!

[#0000ff]The wipers are different this year in Willard, for sure. We had a thread a while back that listed some of the potential reasons...weather, heat, overabundance of food, etc. Bottom line is that it takes a combination of luck and skill to find 'em and then catch 'em. I've taken quite a few from my tube this summer, both on lures and bait. Most of the boaters who have scored any numbers have been successful at getting into the boils and harvesting a couple at a time during the brief period they are on top. It's more like hunting than fishing.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Water levels are dropping at Jordanelle and Deer Creek, which has the larger fish pulling away from the shallow structure on which they had been holding. You can still score some decent smallies dropshotting off deeper points.[/#0000ff]
