The family decided kinda last minute to go to Yellowstone and stay a couple days next week. We will be by Yellowstone lake. Are there any suggestions where a guy could go catch a few fish.
I also have a pontoon. Do they allow them on Yellowstone lake? What do would you use.
I love to fly fish, but am not a fly pole snob. I will use whatever is catching fish.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Throw large stimulators and caddis flies on any of the rivers you see and the last 2 hours of light the PMD's start coming off and you don't want to miss that hatch. The average size is small but there are tons of them.
If you want to fish yellowstone lake take a bunch of the large gold/red dot Jakes Spin-a-lures and you will absolutely kille the cutts. Cast out as far as possible and let it sink to the count of seven. Reel 10 times and repeat. They will pick it up on the fall most of the time. They are nice fish too. About like the berry but none bigger than about 19". My wife and i caught 223 cutts in 2 days of Yellowstone lake fishing. Good luck.[cool]

Casting a silver Kastmaster from the shoreline of Yellowstone Lake is effective for the cutts and also the lakers. Be aware that fishing with lead sinkers is not allowed in Yellowstone.

Hey WanaGoFishin,
They do allow pontoons and tubes, but you have to get a boating permit. It's like $10 or $20. I got mine at the Lake Ranger station, just east of the Lake general store. Als, it costs $20 for a seven-day fishing permit (or $15 for a three-day). I was up there in July. I am jealous! The fishing, particularly in the last hour of daylight, was great!

LH2, 223?? I would of lost track after 4 or 5 lol. You are a better counter than me!!
LH2 is right, Spin-o-Lure worked best when I was up there. We also caught a lot using a fly and bubble with wooly-bugger/worm patterns in olive and black. Also, we killed them on a "bee" pattern. I am not a fly-fishing expert and don't know if they even sell this type of pattern (bee) anymore??
Let us know how you do.

This is an idea post for me. I will be up there the first of september. I don't want to haul my boat. [unsure]Where can I go thats easy in my float tube. Are there any specfic turn offs that anyone would recomend me. When I go to yellowstone lake I usually take the boat out to one of the islands. I don't have any experiance on yellowstone other than the boat. I would love any tips. So when I sneek way from the family I can get right into some good fishin. Thanks, Mike

I can't remember the name but i can tell you it was near the marina where you rent boats and it is right across the street from the lake. I hope that helps but it was a long time ago. I think it was the west side of the lake too. There is a bridge you have to take your boat under.
