so every two weeks i drive to slc and every two weeks i look at this river as i cross over it on i-15 and it looks sooooo tempting to me. what river is it? is there anything, you know, like fish, in there? is it worth my time to stop for 1/2 hour and chuck a few rapalas or something??? man does this river have my attention..........

[cool][#0000ff]That is the Sevier River. It is the primary source of water for Yuba Reservoir. After leaving Yuba it winds down through a canyon and into the DMAD Reservoir near Delta. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In the past it has been a great fishery, especially right at the spillway below the dam. Lots of walleyes, perch, rainbows and even stray northern pike and smallmouths. That ended when vandals got a closure put on fishing down there. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]However, the river is open wherever there is access, such as at the bridge. You can go upstream or downstream, depending on posted areas. There are some deep holes and undercut banks that still hold fish. Many of those fish are carp and suckers, but still plenty of the "good guys" if you look for them.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The reservoir and the river below suffered a lot during the drought years. The river virtually dried up in many stretches. However, there were fish that survived in some of the deeper holes and there are fish that escape through the dam now and go downstream.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Heard tell of a pike taken in that stretch early this year that weighed over 20 pounds. Would that be worth making a few casts?[/#0000ff]

that would be worth more than a few casts, maybe all the way up to several casts[
]. so if i stop there, which i probably will, it will be right where it goes under i-15 at that bridge. since i'll be driving home i will only have bout half hour so i'll just stick to that area. any word on that paticular part of the river tube dude?????? i always wonder why i never see anyone there, is it cuz that part is not worth the stop????

there was a lot of catfish along that strech of river as well.. i have cought some that would go up 20 lbs in there.. that was years ago but i think they still should be there..
a chunk of chub meat should do ya.. allways did the job for me!

[cool][#0000ff]As the Fuzzy one says, it has been years since I fished it, so I take no responsibility for success or failure.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There is an access road on the west side of I-15 that you get on by going back west at the main Yuba Reservoir offramp. Be sure to check for posting. There has been a lot of the river that has become off limits to the public. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Here are a couple of maps I snaked off Topozone.[/#0000ff]

4 years ago when coming back from Cedar City I stopped at the bridge you mentioned and caught a HUGE cat. It swam right towards me on the bank and as soon as I thought I had it the @$@*$# took off to the other side of the river and went upstream on the other side of the concrete 'bridge support' and broke my line. There are fish but hardly any fisherman.

interesting.......
i did stop there two weeks ago just on a whim to give it a try but it was so windy i couldn't cast so i left. i'm not too much of a cat fisherman just cuz i haven't really tried for them all that often. in fact my only kitty fishin has been done at the pumphouse with a crawler. i'm not gonna have any chub meat or anything like that with, not even worms, since i'm just gonna be driving home its not a dedicated fishing trip. i AM gonna stop and chuck a few lures, rapalas and spinners and such, if i do any good i'll post up. even if i don't i'll let ya know what happened.
i'm gonna float tube jordanelle sunday morn about 8 or 9 am though...i'll post on that too. if anybody is there say hi. i'll be at rockcliff with troutfinger and his daughter. i'll be the guy in the red sox hat catching all the fish[
