[#002850]Since many of you have inquired about my son Ben’s condition, I felt that I should let you all know that he passed away yesterday morning (Saturday, August 19th). That was almost eight weeks to the day from when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. His last few days were a real struggle for both him, family, and friends because he was so incapacitated.

Ben’s example to me and others has taught me much through his 27 years. Most of all, he has been an example of standing up for what you believe to be right, taking advantage of learning opportunities, and giving help and assistance to those in need.

In his last few hours, we held each other’s hands in a semi-tight grip, patted and rubbed each other, expressed our love for each other, and said “good by’”. That I will never forget and always cherish.

He will be sorely missed, never forgotten, and always an influence of good.
Plans for the viewing and funeral are not yet final. I will post up letting you know when they are.

Also, I would like you all to know how thankful I have been for this board, it’s good members, and your many kind words and thoughts. They have helped much. I would like to especially thank MGB and Dr. Flinn for helping out with my one last fishing trip with Ben. That sure was great to get in a few last good memories. Now … I need a good fishing trip to shake this off a bit. [/#002850]

Coot,

I am very Saddened to hear about the loss of your son. It sounds like he had great family support in his last days, and it's good that you had the chance to spend time with him.

My family will say a prayer and light a candle in honor of Ben tonight at my twins baptism.

Be well OC,

Tyler

Coot,

Sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like he was one of a kind. Evidently the good lord felt he was needed more up there than down here. Its hard to understand and harder to accept. Just keep in mind that the lord has a beautiful garden in heaven, he sometimes will take the beautiful flowers here and add them to his garden there. It is a true tribute to you as his father, that you raised him worthy enough for him to be an example to all those who knew and loved him. Remember he will always be with you. I lost my Dad 18 months ago. He was also my fishing buddy. (His last heart attack was at Soldier Creek) I like to think that he is still giving me suggestions on where to fish. And I constantly feel him with me.
I pray that you will continue to be blessed by Ben's memories and accompanied by his spirit.

God bless you and your family,

Randy
