]This really sucks, man[pirate]. There may have been a few stories that I wish he didn't do (that gave away a few secret fishing spots), but what a special man he was, and a great story teller as well. I'll miss him on Saturday nights...[

Doug was a great representative and spokesman for every fisherman and hunter in Utah. He could tell any story. He treated me extraordinary well and fair on his shows. He was most honest with me and we always had a great time. We've all lost a special outdoorsman who had the look, the voice, and most importantly the passion of the outdoors in his heart. Here's to all the wild places and wild things Doug brought to life. I'll miss him, as I'm sure many will.

I watched that tonight on the news. Too bad. The outdoors community will miss him.

I am very
dened by this news. I hunted ducks at the same duck club as Doug. I talked to him many times. When ever he did his shows from the duck club I knew were he was tapping from. I had to quit for health reasons. So when he did a show from out there it always brought back memories. I will miss his show alot

Doug was a man that, when you talked to him, you thought you were best friends. That you knew each other for years. He will be greatly missed. His voice, passion, and knowledge of the outdoors benefitted all that came in contact with him.

I agree with [url "http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?username=scrollfish;"]scrollfish. [/url] The few time I had an opportunity to ice fish with Doug while he was filming his show he made you feel like you were one of his best friends.
When meeting Doug he would want to know about you and your experience in the outdoors.
I will miss the opportunity to learn more about the outdoors from Doug. Thanks to him and his family for the great opportunity to meet him and learn from his show.
My condolences to Doug’s family on his passing on.

[cool][#0000ff]Doug's passing has left a big hole in our lives. We may not have always agreed with some of his programs, or how he presented them, but we always took it for granted that he would continue to be there and that if we ever wanted some Saturday night entertainment...fishing related...we could tune in to his show. That's over.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]There are more than a few of us BFTers that are older than Doug was at his passing...59. Every time any of us sees death notices for our contemporaries, or someone younger than we are, it reminds us of our own mortality. Sometimes it even helps spur our resolve to live our own lives more fully and to be a better friend, husband, father or whatever. Sometimes that resolve even lasts longer than a day or two.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]For every person who doesn't care about Doug's untimely passing, there are probably thousands who will miss his contributions to the outdoors world, and who have heartwarming personal encounters by which to remember him. He was a big man in many ways...especially when it came to having a genuine caring for helping other people enjoy his world.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Yeah, like many others, I took my potshots at him. But, I am genuinely sorry to see him go.[/#0000ff]

I only spoke with him once. I'm also a runner, and KSL had Doug at the starting line of the 1994 D-News Marathon. It was 5 a.m., and I had some pre-race jitters, and I thought it was a curious choice to have him up there with a bunch of runners. So I walked up to him, caught his eye, and joked "How 'bout you and me blow this thing off and go fishing?" He got a chuckle out of it. It lightened my jitters and hopefully it made his early morning easier to stomach.

Very
news, Doug will be missed by a lot of us. To think in this day and age that an infection can kill a otherwise healthy person is a scary thought. WH2

[unsure]I think it safe to say he's been one of the most powerful advocates that outdoor sportsmen have had in this area for many years. His physical presence alone demanded respect, as did his knowledge and willingness to be involved in the programs that supported and strengthened causes close to the interest of conservationists and recreational fanatics alike.
59 is much too young . . .

Boy, I read that and my heart sank. From reading the KUTV report, it appeared he was fine and feeling happy, reminiscing about a recent remote fishing trip, and within a week or two later he's lying in intensive care from an infection and doesn't pull through. I guess when it's a person's time to go, he goes.
As has been mentioned in this thread, this type of thing makes me take notice of my own life and causes me to ask myself if I'm living true to my beliefs and values, and if I'm treating my loved ones the respect and consideration they deserve.
From all I've read and from personal experience, I believe Mr. Doug was a very kind and decent and genuine fellow. After watching a lot of low-budget, low-taste hunting and fishing shows on cable television, it was clear to me that Doug's program was a much more professional and tasteful and enjoyable program. He truly conveyed a genuine love and respect for the outdoors and for all the animals he featured on his program.
I will really miss his perspective and approach to wildlife and the outdoors. I wish I could personally convey my sympathy to his family. Thanks for everything, Doug.

The one thing that comes to mind with the recent passing of Doug is how precious life is.

]Chad, You summed it up my friend! Life is way to short and precious. We all take it for granted that we will be doing this or that next week or next month.
Just as easy as we all woke up this morning and went on with our day, Tomorrow could be a completley different story. Don't take things for granted. Enjoy each day as it is your last. Today is a gift, Tomorrow is a dream.
Look at Coot and his family with Ben's passing. Look how fast that happened. What a tragedy!
I cherish every trip I go on like its my last.
A tip of the ol Resistol hat to Doug Miller and his family. May God bless them through these difficult times. This man will live on for years to come in my heart and many others. I envied the man. I always wondered what it would be like to have his job.
