Wednesday, 08/16/06- Late Post, Hit the water early (5am) and soon arrived at Hole 33 to find fish slurping around. Managed to scratch a few off the surface with swim baits. Noticed some activity across the channel so off I went. Pulled in a couple more from two small boils. When all surface action ended I switched to jigging. Pulled in a few more with a silver kastmaster. Back at the dock at 10:30am. Ended up with 11 stripers, all about one and a half pounds.
Thursday, o8/17/06- Late Post, Launched at 5pm. Wind and whitecaps! Took alittle while to get to Hole 33 because of the wet ride! Fished the Lee side of small coves where calm water could be found. There were plenty of stripers surfacing around the Hole 33 area. Tossed a silver rattletrap until dark. The wind did calm down a bit for the ride back to the marina. Ended up with six nice one and a half pound stripers.
What a great time out on the water!

Once again, great report BaySport. Thanks for the heads up. By the way, where is Hole 33 exactly? I tried to find it during my Memorial Day weekend trip but had no luck. Is there a particular numbered buoy to look for? Gov't Wash is so big as well. I couldn't tell if we were in the upper or lower Gov't Wash.
Best regards,
Paul

I'm not sure I can describe where Hole 33 is. It is an area on the Lake Shore Road side. It is between the mid-channel marker (across from Gov't Wash) and the next upstream green channel marker. Right now there is a hazard bouy (rock) in the middle of it.

BaySport, are you able to identify Hole 33 through this map from Google Earth.com?

That's an old picture! Back in the day when there was a lot of water in the lake. I'm guessing Hole 33 is about where the "Cove" is in Pitch Fork Cove. My Pard, Don says Hole 33 is really named 33 Pitch Fork Cove. He should know since he's been fishing Lake Mead for about 30 years.

Hi BaySport,
You're right. Unfortunately, GoogleEarth.com has not updated that particular area of Lake Mead. Just in case you're not familiar with GoogleEarth.com, it's a really fun toy to see satellite images of any place on this world. But as you noted, some of the satellite images are not current. If you look at the images from Callville Bay or Temple Bar, they are a lot more current. Perhaps only a year old...these images show the significant drop in water levels in recent years.
I attempted to place a marker on the map where I believe Hole 33 is. Am I close? Are there any particular buoys that Hole 33 is next to? How far is it from shore? What's the depth at Hole 33? Again, thanks for any info you can provide with regard to Hole 33.
Best regards,
Paul

I think your in the ballpark anyway. That whole area from the mid-channel marker to Las Vegas Wash is a great area to fish. I'll be out there tonight!

Thanks BaySport. I hope I'm able to find the area. Just look for the channel marker. Is there any particular markings or colors on it so I can easily identify it? I'm so jealous that you'll be out there tonight. One of these days....just one of these days...I'm going to pack my bags and just move out to Mead.
Best regards,
Paul
