[blush][#333333]This is generally regarded as the low of the "low season" in Guatemala - in fact many boats take the opportunity for a respite for needed maintenance. The weather can become a bit unpredictable, and the sails tend to spread out wider and further offshore.[/#333333] [#333333] [/#333333] [#333333]We have been fishing regularly however, as our 35ft Bertram the "Joint Venture" was overhauled early in the season and has performed flawlessly. So far we have only had a couple of days over the last 3 months when the weather became sufficiently inclement to force our clients to stay at the dock - the rest of the days we have ventured far and wide to find fish.[/#333333] [#333333] [/#333333] [#333333]Because the fish are less concentrated, and there are fewer boats out looking, the raise/catch rates tend to be down from high season - but still respectable at double digit raises and usually singly digit catches. Mixed in with the sailfish have been Blue Marlin fairly consistently.[/#333333] [#333333] [/#333333] [#333333]Probably the best feature of fishing this part of the season is the opportunity to catch a variety of fish - the Dorado become plentiful, and there is plenty of debris coming out of the river systems to provide cover and focal points for them to congregate. It also marks the start of the yellowfin run. Our captains are constantly on the lookout for the "Spinning Dolphin" as these often signify large schools of yellowfin lurking beneath. [/#333333] [#333333]The "school" yellowfin tend to be in the 15-25lb class - and can provide great sport on light spinning tackle or 9/10wt flyrods..............as well as a great meal or sashimi in the evening ![/#333333] [#333333] [/#333333] [#333333]We hope that you enjoy this Quarterly Newsletter and if you have not yet done so,will take a few moments to complete the registrations so that we can stay in touch - whether you are planning a trip or not ![/#333333]
