I got a little lost last night and ended up on the pentwater river , (south branch ) .
Had two hits during the night that left me yelling "fish on" with nobody around to hear it [laugh], darn those log jams .
Did end up reeling in a few rock bass on my fresh spawn .
Oh Well, It's over to the east side tomorow .

I mentioned over the phone we went though a new moon, when I stepped out side last night to my amaizment I saw a full moon, I must have looked at the wrong month again... LOL,

all this roof repair stuff and studying for a new job thing has eaten up my spring & summer and now is nipping at the heals of my fall,

I am suprized you havent seen or heard of any eyes.

what about them little silver fish that come in on the east side, cant think of their names right now, they come in during the fall, every thing else ran early this year I was wondering if those were too...

The coho aren't up as far as the foote dam as of yesterday .
I did manage 4 rainbow trout . The three smallest were all keeper size , but released on accident . I misread the D.N.R. Trout booklet , Lakes are 15" and over , Streams 10" and over. My first three were 14",13"and 15".
Then a few bass hit , little guys , back they went .
Next was a master anglers patch , a freshwater drum or "sheepshead".
I will post the pic later but a whopping 29" in length and a girth of 22" , I thought it was a carp !!!!
After that came another rainbow , nice sized .
I would almost go as far as calling it a steelhead , but they aren't in the river yet , they follow the coho in and this female had egg sacks in early development .
The minominee should be around right near the end of the month after the coho run .
coho , any day now (fingers crossed ) .

Question, What rigging would you suggest for some one seeking one of these fish. {ya dont have to tell me your best stuff}

the last time I was up to your place and I swang over to the east side I fished the mouth of the river, when I left to go home after getting drenched I passed a small streem on the way home I saw lanterns all down the streem going out to the lake, there had to be about 300-400 people fishing there in the down pour. I think that was the end of september first week in october. (dont know the name of it, couldnt catch it in the dark and rain)

as to the early thing, all the fish have been like that all spring and summer this year, so I guess it looks like the patern is going to hold, I wonder if this means Ice fishing season will begin december "1" [shocked][cool] Bring it on.... any time after turkey day is good for me... Been a long time since I have had to track deer in two feet of snow opening day of deer season.....

I remember the days when that used to be the biggest subject every deer hunter had on thier conversation ajenda. we even used to have a pool as to weather we would have snow for opening day of traking season. "For those guys who got off a Lucky shot" [Tongue][sly]

You will need a light action rod suitable for crappie fishing , a reel that will take line that light with a smooth drag ( these fish have delicate mouths ).

4#,6#, or at the max,8#test low memory mono line , pencil or carp fishing bobbers (europian style ), 1/8 Oz. or smaller split shot , and size 20 or 22 circle or octipus hooks and single eggs of salmon spawn, cured and died red or grapefruit in color .

the hook on the end of the line , the split shot about a foot above that , and as for the bobber , well it's trial and error from that point on , sometimes they are close to the surface , sometimes darn near on the bottom and anywhere in between .
Once you get the right debth figured out , keep it there, you will have the best results for a few hours .

A little note :
This is the fancy way of doing it , had a kid outfish me a couple years back with an old shakespear setup from K-Mart and a perch rig with minnows.
Instead of fish I had me a big ol' helping of "Humble Pie " .

how do you serve them as table fare?

would I prepair them like salmon, trout, gills, or do I smoke them like suckers?
