Hit Strawberry Saturday morning at the ladders with my cousin...if anyone has not had a chance to fish Strawberry, I highly recomend! We caught 94 fish in 3 hours, with 7 of them over the slot. All on white or green tube jigs vertical jigging in about 35 feet of water. Cousin caught 51, I caught 43. We kept 2. When the wind started about 10:30, the fishing slowed down and we left around 11:30.
Willard on Labor day! See my reply to AfDans post about the Boils! That is the first time I've caught Wipers out of boils like that! Ended up with 3 for the day. One 19", the other 2 over 20 inches!

Nice job!!! Sounds like you have the jigging thing down. I want to get my kick boat out and try the ladders. If I have an electric motor on my kick boat, do you think I could get to where the fish are? I have usually only used wholly buggers and flies in the past. I should try tube jigs. Did you put anything on the tube like worms or minnows?

Chinook,
We took the "Ladders" exit from highway 40, drove right down to the water, and launched the 14 foot boat. From there we could have paddled to the place we fished. We did use the gas motor, but went less than one minute. We used the electric motor on the way back and trolled, but didn't catch anything. I think anywhere in the water is good as long as its about 30 feet or more. We tipped the WHITE (Green didn't work on Saturday) tube jigs with a chunk of CHUB MEAT from Sportsmans Warehouse freezer. I like to cut it into chunks the night before, then put it all in a baggy then re-freeze it. Easy to use the next day fishing! Good luck!

...one more thing (Chinook), you should be ANCHORED. We noticed that when a breeze would blow us around the anchor, we stopped getting hits until we stopped again, then the hits would start up again. There was a boat right around us just drifting, and they watched us catch about 20 compared to their 1 or 2!!! Anchoring is KEY!

Three of us fished south of the ladders that same morning from shore and didn't get a hit.
I was sure wishing I had my poontoon.
I saw a few fish caught from the boaters.
Not a thing for us.
