Wouldn't that be cool

[black]I'm pretty sure that the lake record is right around 31 lbs. That was caught quite a few years ago though. Pretty tough to catch many over the 16-18 lb mark though you see one every now and then.[/black]

The lake certainly seems to have decent forage base as well as a good over all size and depth to be able to support decent Mac. So I cant help but wonder why it is that 25+ are rare. But it explains why I travel to FG instead..

Dan,

The Mac's and Cutt's are all gone.... only Carp and suckers left! You may want to tell everyone to fish elsewhere! [Tongue][Tongue][Tongue][Tongue]

Mac's are in pre-spawn as we speak!!!!!!!! Hint Hint

I know a guy that caught two 20lb macs last spring. Only a few more weeks and hopefully I will be me catching them!!!

[red] Pat, I might just have to tell everyone to Birddog you from now on.LOL You wouldn't be keeping anything from us would you?[/red]

[black]So, Pat, with lake trout in pre-spawn, what do you believe that means and how does that benefit or hinder you?[/black]
[signature]
I would believe that they would have the feed bags on before the simulated spawn. Also, water temps have been dropping so they will be moving from the deeps to shallower water. They may not be concentrated in any one area but if you troll around one may find numbers more than size as this post was originally about (sorry for going off topic).

I have been trying to educate myself as much as possible about the species and traits during different times of the year at bear Lake. With that being said... I have learned that there is much to learn! LOL

As to a benefit for me, well, I may have a better chance in actually catching something other than sucker from the shore as they move into shallower waters instead of the 60-90 foot areas that I can't reach.

As for any hindrance, I see none at all! Fishing is more than catching for me, just wish I could do it more often, and from a boat. My son and I have fished all summer from the breakwater at the marina and from the shore at Cisco beach and enjoyed many fishless days.[Sad] We have, however, mastered the sucker and carp techniques! The biggest one I've heard of is 32lbs. Back in 03 my brother landed this one downrigging in 80' it went 27lbs.

[red] I thought that you were about done with your boat, or did you sell that one also.[/red]

LOL No I have not sold this one! Man you are hard on a guy! Don't make me start wearing that CES hat again! LOL

Yes the boat is almost complete and ready to be sea trialed. This one is kind of small for BL Mac trolling so I may go back to jigging and learn to finness! I have yet to break the 13lb mark but I hope to this year.

I know there are still some in the 18-20 lb range with my name on them. All I need is a stinken picture and the pond can have it back! Why is it being so difficult to me??? LOL
