I finally got out on a hunt this last weekend. I was hoping to go Moose, but no dice. Got all my stuff done, got the new truck, and so I figured I could use a weekend of blastin small game.

Went down south Friday night, despite the incliment weather, to my favorite Grouse area, Mt. Dutton. Amazing place. I got up top by Jones at around 6. Not quite so good weather.. Didn't matter. Nailed 4 big blues right off of the road.

Next day up at first light, to the top again. Limit by about noon. Gotta love it. My parents were fishing the Sevier, so I went to find them.

When I got to them, I jumped Chukar right up off of the road when I was turning around. A whole bunch of them, and they didn't go far. Grabed the 20, and stalked Chukar till about 6, when I finally had five. Along the way I even got a couple of cottontails, too.

Final morning, I went back after the Chukar. Couldn't find them strait away, but I eventually did. Gotta love decent boots and knee braces. Only nailed 2, but I had shots at quite a few. Again, blasted cottontails along the way.

It was nice getting out in Southern Utah this weekend. Weather turned out decent. Huntin was excellent, as usual. I saw a bunch of deer and elk, wild turkeys, heck even foxes, coyotes and one mean lookin badger. The fishing was good for my parents, too.

Sounds like a great weekend if you ask me! I'd take one of those any day! We headed out on Saturday and found a few Chukar. They were really jumpy with all the wind, so we didn't get many good shots, but it was nice to be out and about.

It was nice. Just too bad it ended so soon.

Where abouts did you find the chukar? I was surprised to find any down south. They were kind of stupid to begin with.. Makes me wonder if they were just released or something.

They were probably some of the pen-reared birds that the DWR releases just before the beginning of the Chukar opener every year.

I'm thinkin they had to be pen reared. They were just too stupid! I've never seen chukar that stupid out west before. It was kinda nice for a change.
