[black]The surface water temperature at Bear Lake is 62 degrees and the lake trout are staging process at the beginning of their spawning run. Fishing has really started to pick this past week and is rated as "good" right now. The best luck is coming for anglers fishing for lake trout off the Gus Rich and Rainbow Cove areas, however a few cutthroat are also being taken. At Gus Rich Point ("the rockpile") anglers are trolling U-20, M-4 and T-2 sized flatfish in crome, white and frog colors using downriggers. Try trolling the lures at depths from 85 feet up to about 65 feet. Fish have not necessarily been right on the bottom and some anglers are catching suspended fish. Use your sonar to locate fish and try varying your depths and trolling speed until you find the fish. At Rainbow Cove anglers are reporting catching good numbers of lake trout using cisco for bait in about 65 feet of water. You can either "dead fish" a whole cisco right on the bottom with a slip sinker/hook harness set up or simply attach a piece of cisco to a 1/2 to 1 oz. maribou or tube jig and work the jig right on the bottom. Color has not been important, but popular colors to try are white, green, brown and black. Fishing for lake trout and cutthroat trout should continue to improve as the water continues to cool and we are anticipating some really good fishing during the next month.[/black]

[black]The lake level is at 5910.20' and has dropped just over 20 inches from the high mark in June. The good news is that boats can still be launched at the Utah State Park Marina, First Point, Cisco Beach, and Rainbow Cove ramps. Finally, for those anglers without boats, try shore fishing off Cisco Beach or off the Utah State Park marina where you can easily cast to deeper water. Try early mornings or evenings and cast spoons or deep diving crankbaits to deep water and retrieve them so the lure is close to, or bumping the bottom.[/black]
