hi...
are there any videos of a hiar rig with a pop up boilie in action?
i read how it works on carp but i cant quite unterstand how the hook goes in its mouth..and how it hooks itself..wont it just take the boilie without the hook?
with the hook facing down,when the fish takes the boilie then spits it out..does the hook turn around to face upwards and get hooked on the outside? or does it take the hook into its mouth along with the boilie? isnt the hook terribly exposed ?
how does it work and why is it so popular ?

The one up rig is a hair rig with a one ended hair attached to the hook. The technique involves placing a popup boilie on the end of the hair.

How this rig works
The one up rig presents the bait to carp as an individual offering by floating a popup boilie a few centremeters above the bottom.

When the carp sucks the boilie into its mouth, it will either swim off with the bait and by doing so will hook itself or it will try to spit the bait out and by doing so should accidently hook itself.

How to make this hair rig
What you need:
- 10lb braid or mono
- 3lb braid or mono
- swivel
- hook – size 6 - 8
- rubber tubing
- Glue

Making the hair rig:
- Cut a 30cm piece of the 10lb braid/mono
- Tie one end of the braid/mono to the swivel
- Cut one small 7mm piece of rubber tubing
- Slide the piece of tubing onto the 10lb braid/mono
- Tie the end of the 10lb braid/mono to the hook
- Cut a 5cm piece of the 3lb braid/mono
- Tie a loop at one end of the 3lb braid/mono – this is your hair
- Tie the end of the 3lb braid/mono that does not have the loop to the hook eye
- Slide the piece of rubber tubing along the 10lb braid/mono over the hook eye
- I usually put some glue on the hook eye and then slide the rubber tubing over the hook eye.

do you know any other fish that can be caught on a hair rig apart from carp?
i suppose the hair rig is only meant to be used while using pop up boilies..right?

Any time you go fishing there is the chance you will get what you are doing after, but suprise some dumb fish will be hungry enough to take what ever you through out there. That is why they call it fish follen stuff. Have fun out there,

[black][size 3]As far as the hair rig goes, it is one of the more common carp fishing rigs used(albeit in Europe). The hair that is being refered to is actually just a short piece of line that is first snelled on the hook then the tag end is tied into a loop that holds the bait. The bait is not "hooked" to the hook - the hook is basically bare and the boilie dangles from the "hair" as if were not attached. [/size][/black]

[black][size 3]When the carp sucks in the bait the hook goes in the carps mouth with it, but the hook is now in the carps mouth in a position where the eye and the shank and the hook point are all pointing outward. [/size][/black]

[black][size 3]The clever carp then discovers the peice of metal(hook) in it's mouth and tries to spit out the whole rig. As the carp does this, it uses enough force that it drives the point of the hook right into it's lip. [/size][/black]

[black][size 3]Here's how you can imagine or visualize the process. Don't really try this example - it's for demonstration purposes only ! [/size][/black]

[black][size 3]Ball up a slice of bread and put the whole thing in your mouth at one time. Don't chew it. Move the ball of bread to the back of your mouth but, Don't swallow the bread. Now, while you have your mouth full of bread, put a large bare fish hook in your mouth - hook bend first, far enough that you leave only the eye of the hook sticking out of your mouth. With the hook in your mouth, try to spit out the big wad of bread as hard as you can. What will happen is; as the bread is ejected, it pushes on the hook, which is in front of it. The pressure of the bread against the hook (and the point of the hook which is aiming outwards) will drive the point of the hook into your lip as it's being expelled. [/size][/black]
