Just got home with my new Outcast fish cat 9

The kid already thinks it is his! LOL [Tongue][unsure]

Time to trick it out and get her in the water.

Nice! One day I'd like to get something like that and keep my ODC sport as a guest 'toon.

Nice boat!

Eagle FF (full swivel mount) custom install on aluminum plate
4 rod holders and one net holder on rear motor mount (still needs to be sealed) easy disconnect
sliding and adjustable transducer mount off rod rack

I may add or modify later but I had to get the basics installed/fabricated first.

Maiden voyage yet to be determined...probably next sunday.

[cool][#0000ff]Lookin' good...but what else would I expect of someone with a name like Pat.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We will have to "hook up" on the big blue pond for some of those tasty whities. Will work on freeing up a couple of days while you are up there.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]PS...you know there will be two toons in the family very soon. Right?[/#0000ff]

Two toons?????

OH yea I need one as well! LOL

[#505000]I love that craft. I've had one now for not quite 2 years and It's been a champ![/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]I used a RAM mount up front for my fish finder. I like your rod holder idea, and I may have to steal/copy/tinker with it. I do from time to time when the "law" ain't looking to strap on a trolling motor. That being said I think I do like it. [/#505000]
[#505000][/#505000]
[#505000]That craft has given me many fine fine hours of fishing. Having it out on Utah Lake during a "hurricane" I can tell you it will take a licking and keep on ticking. You'll get wet, but the craft will stay upright, and floating.[/#505000]

A question for all you, specially TD, the fact that I am not lacking for room on my toon, looking at some of these others, we have kicked around the idea of strapping a long BIG pvc tube horizontally on the side of the toon, (9' in our case cause of FF thing) with an opening on the top, like a troft, with straps of course to keep the rods from falling out.
Lay the rods in the troft, out of the way from flinging line and room for motor, lunch box, etc. What do you think!
Other that line getting wrapped around each other, maybe some socks to slip over rods to prevent that, plus protect the rods.

[cool][#0000ff]I wish I had cut and saved the picture I once saw in a fly fishing magazine. Some PVC nut (like myself) had made such a rod carrier for a canoe, I believe. It was a few inches longer than the longest rod, with a cap on either end. He cut a flap out of the top third and installed little hinges in several spots, so that it could be lifted off for loading and unloading, but would flap back down to cover the rods otherwise. There was a cutout section near the bottom, to allow up to three reels to protrude up out of the 4" tube of PVC. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I think I could probably build one of those from memory and experience with PVC, if you guys wanna try to make one...or two. It could be easily bungeed onto the frame for each trip and would fit inside most vans easily.[/#0000ff]

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]I tell you what, I know Evil Ash is still kicking around that idea. Think about it "heaven forbid", your craft starts to sink, this tube will float (it has to, it's like a bobber or at least a canoe) and you can save your gear. I have been on some nawrly waters that I would have felt better knowing my rod holder mounted rods were safe.[/size][/black][/font]
[signature]
[cool][#0000ff]If you want extra floatation you can lengthen the tubes a few inches on each end and stuff the ends with foam.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You also can use velcro or bungee to secure the rods inside at the reel end and a quick snap catch to keep the lid closed between openings.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In short, you could insure that the rods survived even if you don't.[/#0000ff]

Something along these lines but thinner and built out of PVC? Store bought stuff is expensive and usually not exactly what you want, but they serve as good planning guides to build from.

or maybe like this?

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]Like the top one, but with an opening in the top so you can just reach down and grab a rod or pole. [#ff0000][size 4]GUYS, WERE ON TO SOMETHING HERE![/size][/#ff0000][/size][/black][/font]

[cool][#0000ff]Whaddayamean we're ON something? I never touch the stuff...lightly.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you want, I can diagram my concept of a ten footer. You can make it out of heavy PVC or lighter ABT stuff (black) and you can paint it purty if you wanna.[/#0000ff]
[signature]
RIGHT ON! I knew if any one could, the PVC TUBEDUDE could.

This is going to be great!

Rather than open...how's about piano hinge held on with stainless rivets?? Just engineering thoughts of course.

ask for a channel and the design turns into a mona lisa! LOL

[cool][#0000ff]I am working on the diagrams in between other projects. I had planned to include three small hinges along the edge of the top opening. That seemed to be how the contraption I saw in the magazine was constructed. It is easy to drill small pilot holes and screw things to PVC. It's tough stuff.[/#0000ff]
