Oops! Apologies to all of you who had a heart attack or started salivating when you read the subject line for this message. I should have put a question mark at the end of it. I really don't know if there is any ice at Scofield yet, but I am hoping to get up there fishing this weekend. For several years, I've gone up the day after Thanksgiving and been able to ice fish on strong ice. This year I may need to take my float tube. Can anybody tell us the state of the ice at Scofield?

Did you fish up there the last two years the day after Thanksgiving? I ice fished Scofield on turkey day two years in a row (2002, and 2003) but have been unable to the last two years ( 04 and 05) because all the reports were saying it was not frozen yet......

You're not gonna find ice up there. It's been too warm. Up above the reservoir there are still mud puddles that haven't frozen over, and that's at about 8000'. No snow around, except in the dark timber, and everythings drying out. To put it frankly, it's been way too warm up there for everything. About two weeks ago it was 80*. I know that if the elk hunting's slow I'm planning on fishing it from shore on Friday.
Figured this would help too. From KSL:

Right now it's 40* with a low of only 27*. Looks like it's going to stay about like this for a while, too. I'd have to say Scofield's going to be soft or unfishable untill the begining of December.

Yep, that was one fine day! Trudged through about a foot of snow with 14 inches of slush at Huntingington, in about a 30 mph wind and temperatures hovering near zero, for three of us to manage to catch one tiger trout each.[pirate] Stood on the docks at Scofield and drilled holes through about 1" of ice and didn't even get a bite! [
] Hopefully, all of the ice fishing trips this winter will be just a tad more enjoyable.
