[black][Wink]There is an excellent map for fishing utah![/black]
[black]The Division of Wildlife Rsources is providing a fishing map and information though a new "Fishing hotspots" on it's web site, the interactive tool provides fishing information for more than 100 of utah's best fishing waters. You can access the hotspots feature at [/black][black]www.wildlife.utah.gov/hotspots[/black]
[black]The new feature provides anglers with information they will not find on regular fishing pages. The system features a map or satellite image of Utah, it includes markers that show you the locations of specific fishing waters. Color coding on the markers shows you whether the fishing at times is hot, good, fair, or just plan forget about it. Clicking on a marker for a specific water area brings information onto your screen about the area. includes a forcast and info about the water and area. Give the new feature a try, but remember to post your success or disapointments on BFT...[/black]

Not sure whether I like that or not. I guess it doeasn't hurt anymore than the weekly fishing report. [Smile]

I don't think these maps will be a real problem. The way that the fishing site is updated on the "other" site it will be about two weeks behind.

I like the map and think it was a good idea on the part of the DWR. There is nothing on it that isn't on their weekly report as far as what is hot and what is not. Their idea of hot or not is sometimes a little late but then their web site is always a little slow as it is not the highest of their priorites.

I also like being able to see what type of fish are in a particular lake I have never been to before. Being able to see how close some lakes are to each other or somewhere you are going camping is also nice. Felt kind of stupid when I finally found out that Huntington was the lake I used to bow hunt by all the time years ago. Wish they would have had the map back then.

This new website is a great resource that anglers should check out--especially those who are usually disappointed by the weekly fishing report. This website is intended to slowly phase out the fishing report. One of the best advantages is that the fishing forecast for each specific water can be updated at any time. With the fishing report, it takes some time to compile information for all the waters on the list and it can only be updated every one to two weeks.
I think that many anglers will find this website to be a very useful and valuable tool.

This website also gives very important information on those fisheries as well. If someone takes the time to read some of the site descriptions, they can learn much about the fishery. In fact, some of that information is more valuable when planning a fishing trip than any recent report can be.

for example, look at the Sevier River in Black Canyon. How many people know that while the majority of rivers freeze up this time of year, and become unfishable, the river in Black Canyon does not: "Because of the high water table and numerous springs, this section of stream never freezes".

You also can get some history of management practices of many fisheries as well. How many of you knew that Fish Lake originally contained native cutthroat trout and sculpin?

This is a very good way for the DWR to provide good information for people wanting to fish our waters. Now, if only people will utilize it.
