[cool]That little poaching victom of a lake doesn't get ice fished much in the winter. First of all, often times you need 4x4 to get up to it in the winter, and 2nd of all, why go up there to get a bunch of 13 inch stunted cuts when you can get a lot bigger ones at Strawberry with the chance of hooking a real monster? Historically on this site there isn't very many reports of Current Creeks ice fishing/conditions. Sorry man...

I was headed up there this weekend but I will have to wait one more week. I have a friend to goes up around that area about once a month. His last communication with me was that the lake was frozen. Was not sure how thick. The road is like it always is, rutty, but very little snow up to the dam. That was last Wednesday.
I have heard before the snow earlier this week you could still get around the lake with a good 4x4. That might of changed.
I hope everyone thinks the lake is just full of 13 inch stunted cutthroat.

Amen to that! There's some good, fast fishing to be had there, both summer and winter.
We'll certainly be going!

hey, thanks for the info guys. i know it isnt the most popular ice destination in the state, so its hard to get up to date info on it. im not sure if we'll head up there in the morning, or stop at the berry. currant creek can be one of the most fun places to fish in this state... believe it or not! not only is it constant action, but there are some big ones here and there. i agree that strawberry is pretty tempting as you drive on past, but i think there is time to fish both lakes this winter. i'll post a report when i return.

good luck tomorrow, bkidder

I will be headed up there next Saturday. So if you did not make it up there this week you have an invitation to join us if you would like. There will probably be 5 of us. We will be taking enough vehicles if you need a ride.

[cool]Really? So, what's your biggest fish caught out of there? I did here a story once from I guy I used to know that said he was out there in his tube one summer day and his bait got slammed very hard and the tip of his pole went bent over and submerged below the water before it snapped his line off. However, I think nice sized fish out of that lake are the exception and not the rule...

I would agree that you will not ice 20 inch fish all day long like I have the Berry, But I have caught some over 20 inches on more than one occassion. Last year I was with 5 fishin buddies and we all took home 2 or more in the 17-19 inch range. (Could have taken more)
The largest one that I have been present when landed was over 23 inches and over 4 lbs. ( I was not the catcher)
Just like all lakes, get away from the crowds. I have 2 spots that I hit regularly and the produce a number of fish in that 17-19 inch slot. (yes I still catch some dinks)
For me it is a good place to introduce someone new to the sport plus I will take some nice ones home if I want.

It was working when I replied to your post, I even checked it, and it seems to be working now. Maybe it is just the time of day when you tried it and a lot of people were using the site. WH2

This past summer my Dad and I were fishing with some rooster tails from the shore, and somehow I foul hooked a smaller cut. As I was bringing him in sideways a huge hook jawed monster came out of nowhere and tried to get him. He wasn't successful, and I am sure that time has made that fish bigger that I really was, but it was definitely a whopper.

Does this one look stunted?
