I live in Draper and am planning to fish on Saturday. I am tired of Scofield, not as good as a month ago. My thoughts were to go to either Rockport or to Lindon Bay. My question is does anyone have any idea what the ice thickness is for Rockport? Lindon Bay? If Lindon Bay is fishable, how do you get there? I have never been. Is the ice safe enought to bring a 6 year old? What bait are you using for the white bass? What depth are you fishing? Off the bottom? Half? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

[cool][#0000ff]Lindon is not producing as well as it was. Not sure about the ice after the warm days and rain. Could be iffy.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]DIRECTIONS:[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I-15 (north or south) to Lindon Exit 273 (600 So.). West to Geneva Rd. (Hwy 114). Right (north) under I-15 overpass to first light at 200 So. Turn left (west), go back over I-15, continue through industrial area to dead end at 2000 West. (at the garbage dump building). Turn left, go over railroad tracks and then follow the road (1600 N.) around to the right. After crossing the railroad tracks you will see the gate to Lindon Harbor straight ahead.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Good ice at Rockport...5" to 6". Trout on the east side and a few perch on the west side in 40 feet of water. Tough fishing.[/#0000ff]

Thanks. So I presume Lindon Bay is part of Utah Lake? Doesn't Utah lake have the reputation of having very dirty water? If that is the case, how do the fish taste out of that water? Can one really tell. I have just heard in the past that Utah Lake is not a good place to fish just wondering? If you hear of the ice thickness at Lindon Bay, let me know.
Thanks

[cool][#0000ff]Lindon Harbor is a part of Utah Lake. And yes, Utah Lake has a reputation for being dirty. That is for two reasons. One, it is shallow and gets muddy when the wind blows. Two, there are contaminants in the water from the years when Geneva Steel and other sources used the lake as a dumping ground.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The lake has been at a higher level the past two years and has remained much cleaner...mudwise. The fish taste fine. A lot of anglers dearly love the white bass, walleyes, catfish, crappies and other fish from Utah Lake.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The ice was 4" to 5" before the warming spell last week. That might have made the ice less safe. I haven't heard anything for a couple of days. Fishing had dropped off there anyway so you might be better off fishing other waters.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Hope this helps.[/#0000ff]

I know a lot of you guys might disagree with me on this, but in my humble opinion, I wouldn't recommend anyone eating anything caught out of Utah Lake.
I am from down in that area. I know that the lake has really been cleaned up the last few years with the help of the higher water and other factors as well, but the contaminates that were dumped into that lake several years back did not just up and disappear. I remember a release last year concerning some of the fish from U.L. and I think it's something to be concerned about.
I'm not saying that EVERY fish from there is contaminated...what I am saying is that I would think twice before cooking up a mess of catfish, bass, or anything else caught out of there or the Jordan River. Just something to be aware of, and thought I'd pass it along to my all my BFT friends.
Fish on!

3 words: Straw-ber-ry.
I started fishing just 3 years ago and pretty much have been able to go most weekends since then. At first, my cousin and I (My cousin is my always-available fishing partner) would hop in car at 5:00 a.m. and try to figure out where we would go that day. Now, we still hop in the car at 5:00 a.m. and I set the autopilot and the Jeep just steers itself to Strawberry! We laughed about that on Tuesday as we were fishing...we had not once even discussed where to go the whole morning! We just went and ended up at Strawberry! If you've been to Scofield, Strawberry is closer and the fish are bigger!

I appreciate all your comments. I agree that with the warmer weather, I would have a hard time going to LBH. It would be hard for me to believe that the fish at LBH are not contaminated. I have lived here alot of years and Utah Lakr just seems to be the dumping ground for everything. As far as the Berry, I liked it my first 3 years as well, but I like Scofield early season until others freeze. If Pineview were frozen, that's where I would prefer. But for now, it looks like it will be the Port. Then maybe East Canyon.

Algae .... Algae .... Algae!
That is what is in Utah Lake. Utah lake is actually one of the cleanest lakes in the state according to the Central Utah Water Distric Office.
In the summer when your driving by the lake, it smells awful! It's the algae blooms dying off. There is so much algae in that lake that if there was an oil spill, it would be cleaned up in less than a year by the algae.
Let's squash the rumors of contaminates please? PCB's are said to be found in the CARP ONLY. That survey was taken last year and they recommended that you don't eat too much and said nothing whatsoever about the White Bass or any other game fish for that matter.
Utah lake fish are some of the healthiest fish around.
Not trying to upset anyone here ... sorry for the blunt-ness.

I don't think anyone is upset, Clif. I think people will decide what they want to do and do it.
Those contaminates last year...did they just disappear? Why would Carp have traces of contaminates in them (PCB's), and not the other species of fish? Just some common sense things to ask yourself.
Yes, we know that algae is the source of the smell at UL, since it's so shallow.
I'd like to compare data from what the Central Utah Water Distric Office has to say among other researchers. I have a hard time believing that UL is one of the cleanest lakes in the state.
Again, I don't think anyone here is upset...we're just telling it like it is. At any rate, UL will never be the lake it once was...crystal clear and full of native cutts.
