Thanks to DEEPCYCLE, I was able to fish on friday. He and a friend met me and we fished a great spot at the Soldier Creek side of Strawberry. We arrived before dawn and the parking lot was already almost full. There were a few other groups on the ice when we got to our spot, and on the way in...the ice on Strawberry (Ladders, CCE) was dotted with lanterns (about 6 or 7 groups).
We set up and started fishing...before I even had my hole drilled, DEEPCYCLE caught a 18 incher on a jig and worm. I dropped my white tube and wax worm to the bottom and within a few minutes, I got a 17 incher, and our friend got one. There were times that my bait wouldn't hit the “bottom”...before a fish would take it. The bites were sometimes so slight, if you didn't hold the pole and feel it, you wouldn't know they had taken it.
I switched to those preserved shiners that I bought in desperation at “the Hub” in Heber and the fish wouldn't leave those alone! We had pretty good action until about 10:30 am...then the bite switched off and we only had sporadic nibbles (fish were passing through, but weren't interested. All in all, it was a beautiful day...we iced about 25 to 30 fish (I can't remember) with the biggest coming in at 23 inches...I released him to fight another one of you in the near future.
Here are some quick pictures I was able to squeeze off between the action. Thanks to DEEPCYCLE for letting me fish with him...I had a really great time. And thanks to all those who participate in this forum with your tips and tricks. Especially to the moderators and others behind the scene who keep this site alive! Thanks a million!
