Was on Rockport by 7:00 yesterday morning. Needed the ice spikes for sure! Moved about quite a bit early on looking for fish on the finders, which really wasn't hard. But ACTIVE fish was another story. Four of us over 4+ hours, and my 2 'bows, fat 13-inchers, were it.
Saw a few perch early, but no takers. One with an Aqua-Vu saw both rainbows and smallmouth cruising, but again, no action.
Over 40 feet of water I took the 2 rainbows at 16 feet. Had two other bites: one at 30 and another at 34. Amongst the other 3 guys, only one bite total. But almost always were there fish coming through. A lot were singles. My catches came with 2 or more fish together, and they began to attack. Competition, I guess.
We actually we went from mid-lake toward the inlet later and talked to some folks coming out. Much the same story from everyone.
But a beautiful, cold winter day! Better than staying home and taking Christmas lights off the house!

[cool]So you guys only drilled holes in two different places the whole day then? If that's true, then that would be why no perch. You REALLY have to work for them now since last year. There's only half (if that many) as man perch as there was prior to the dieoff in Spring '05. It's pretty tough to get a limit of them now and you have to go find an active school, and then when that bite drops off then you have to go find another active school. Sorry to hear the bite was so slow for ya...

No, we moved our gear to another area of the lake by truck only once. But we were cutting holes and dragging sleds all day.

I fished it on the 26th and again on the 31st. We caught 31 the first time and 21 the second. Quite slow, actually. But enough for dinner.

Fished Rockport New Years day with Pikeman, Dabomb, and Glens son. Great guys to fish with! Started out fast but slowed considerably. The ice was good and slick. About 5-6 inches thick. The perch caught were nice.

[cool]Thanks for the report. I wonder if the full moon (along with ice with no snow on top so the full moon being more of a factor than normal on ice fishing) played a big role in the slow fishing this past weekend...I'm thinking it should be better this coming weekend...
