Was on Rockport by 7:00 yesterday morning. Needed the ice spikes for sure! Moved about quite a bit early on looking for fish on the finders, which really wasn't hard. But ACTIVE fish was another story. Four of us over 4+ hours, and my 2 'bows, fat 13-inchers, were it.
Saw a few perch early, but no takers. One with an Aqua-Vu saw both rainbows and smallmouth cruising, but again, no action.
Over 40 feet of water I took the 2 rainbows at 16 feet. Had two other bites: one at 30 and another at 34. Amongst the other 3 guys, only one bite total. But almost always were there fish coming through. A lot were singles. My catches came with 2 or more fish together, and they began to attack. Competition, I guess.
We actually we went from mid-lake toward the inlet later and talked to some folks coming out. Much the same story from everyone.
But a beautiful, cold winter day! Better than staying home and taking Christmas lights off the house!
