Hit the Berry with Hookjaw Brimhall, and a few non-Bfter's today.
We started off in 30' of water, but after 15 minutes or so of seeing very few fish on the finder, we headed for shallower water. Ended up in 17' of water, and with 20 seconds of getting the jigs (2 two pole permit!) in the water, I landed a nice 22 1/2" cut. We stuck around in this area for about an hour or so, and between us we managed 10 fish or so. It started to die off, and we figured the fish went a little deeper. We headed back out to 30' and Hookjaw started rippin' lips right away. He scored 2 within 10 minutes that went 22" each. Big, fat, beautiful cutts. We all scored a few fish over the next hour or so, when again, it slowed to a halt. We decided to spilt up a bit to try and find the fish. The non-Bfter's went deeper, and Hookjaw and I went shallow again. We ended up in 14' of water. Right off the bat we started getting hit. Fish were coming through on the finder on a consistant basis, and we both managed a half dozen. What was really cool was that we could see our jigs just looking down the ice hole. We would occaionally watch the fish take off with it.
We ended up moving to 36' of water, and we really got into them. Over the next 4 hours or so, we all brought in fish every 10-15 minutes or so. We didn't really keep count, but I would say that between the 4 of us, we probably iced 70-80 fish easy. 5 were over the slot. All cutts.
We had a great day at the Berry. Couldn't ask for better weather, and the ice was a solid 4". [
