I think I read a post a while back that said the Hyrum Reservoir is partially frozen. Does anyone have any updates on the ice conditions at Hyrum?

[black]It is fully capped but not too thick. I saw a few guys on it yesterday where the old ice meets the new and no one was venturing onto the new ice. Shouldn't be long now.[/black]

Thanks a lot for the info. You saved me a drive down there to look. I am thinking about going out this weekend if I can get the pass from my wife. I may have used up all of my free passes last week on Strawberry!

Does anyone know why it takes Hyrum longer to freeze up, than say...Mantua which isn't too far away? Is it just because of the elevation difference?

I'm sure the depth of the water is the reason, shallow water freezes faster than deep water. Wind might also play some part of when a certain body of water will freeze. WH2

I drove by the reservior tonight on my way home and there were 3 people out there fishing and were quite a ways out further than i think i would have gone but it must be thick enough to fish on.

I have fished it for several years now, but only through the ice. Last year was the first year that I actually caught some fish. So far, I have only caught rainbows. I hear that there are a lot of perch, some bass, and a few browns in there too, but I haven't caught any.

[black]Well, what ice was there is no longer. This warm weather has melted the thin ice cap off. Guess we'll have to wait for the next cold spell and hope it lasts.[/black]
