How is the ice on daniels now that the weather has been so warm ? And how is Chesterfield and what do you use at Chestfield ? Thanks

Chesterfield's been terrible. I would say go to Devils or Deep Creek. Also the road to Chesterfield is really icy and dangerous. Too far to go to catch only a few. Brians report says it all. I confirm his results.

I haven't been to Daniels but I would put money on being able to ice fish it anytime during the next seven days. The temps haven't been too warm in SE Idaho lately but as always you should be careful when walking on the ice.
You can read my report for my opinion on Chesterfield. I'm surprised so many people are fishing it when the fishing has been so slow. Below is a picture of some jigs and ice flies I would use if I was to fish Chesterfield this week.
When I fished Chesterfield a few days ago the ice fly in the bottom left corner worked best. It has a 1/16 oz orange head, fine white rubberlegs, white & Chartruese marabou, crystal flash and some pearl crystal wrap.(??some of the spelling of the materials?)
I would tip them with a 1"-2" piece of nightcrawler and smear a little powerbait on them. Wax worms or meal worms should also catch fish. I would also have at least one of my 5 poles trying something different. I would probably try some smaller spoons like kastermasters, larger tube jigs, smaller ice fly/jigging rapala combo or whatever looked good in my box at the moment.
Good luck if you get out to chesterfield but don't expect to catch many fish. I know several people who have been skunked trying to catch fish at Chesterfield the last couple weeks.

Brian you fishing that tournament at Devils Creek? Caught about 50 there not long ago. nothing big.

I'm not going to fish the tournament at Devil Creek. I might not even fish Devil Creek until after ice off. A good place to catch a bunch of fish but it gets crowded once the ice gets a little thicker. As you probably know most of the fish in Devil Creek are kept before they are in there long enough to grow to a bigger size.

The good thing about the tournament is they won't measure anything unless its over 13". if its 13" or under it has to be released immediately. I caught a cutthroat out of there last time that went around 17" that would be good for a prize in the tournament.

Brian,
Thanks for the jigs. I used them the other day and they worked great. Out a pelican lake your jigs pulled out a 16" bass. Thanks for the contest.
