I've done ruptured my achilles...... complete tear. They did surgery last Friday to repair it. I'm going CRAZY sitting around, so I've got to get out this weekend to hit the hard top. I'm probably out of my mind, but I'd rather be sitting in the shack with an ice rod in my hand than at home on the couch this weekend.

We'll be taking the snowmobile to pull my butt out on the ice..... I'm wondering what areas will be safe for the sled. I know that Mud Creek has plenty of ice but it sounds like its been fished to death. And it sounds like Strawberry bay is still thin. What about the Ladders or CCE...... maybe Soldier Creek? Is 6 to 8 inches safe for a snowmobile? Its an old beater sled that I picked up for cheap.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your replies!!!

When I was at the marina last week there were people with sleds on the ice. I don't know that I reccomend it, but there were. CCE, Ladders, and Soldier Creek should have enough as they froze well before the Marina became safe.

Sorry to heard about the achilles, and be careful..... that's a bad injury. [Sad]

I was at the marina yesterday and there was a good 6-7 inches of ice. Did not see any machines out there but there where tracks.

Thanks for everyone's info!

Can someone please exactly what a slush monster is to me, sorry if it's a dumb question.

What is being described is that slush is on top of the ice. Slush on the ice can play havoc with 4 wheelers and snowmobiles trying to travel over the ice, and it can make it difficult and uncomfortable for those who are trying to walk in it. If it is deep enough it can go over the top of most boots and wet feet can ruin a day of fishing just about as fast as anything can. The worst I ever encountered was about a year ago on Huntington Reservoir. There was at least 14" of slush, with almost two feet of snow on top of that. To make it more enjoyable the wind was blowing about 30 miles per hour and the temperature was near zero.
