I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE MY WIFE UP TO ROCKPORT SAT. DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY INFO ON THE ICE. ALSO ARE THE PERCH STILL IN THERE.

Ice should be good but the perch are a little hard to find. Move around in deep water to locate them.

There was a die off of perch in some of our lakes and it will take at least five good years to get them back to where they were.....

MOST OF THE FISHING THAT WE WILL BE DOING WILL BE CATCH AND RELEASE. WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE FOR TROUT? I LIKE TO PARK ON THE BOAT RAMP SO I CAN UNLOAD THE QUICK FLIP II. SHOULD WE FISH IN 20-30 FEET OF WATER? THANKS FOR THE HELP.

The best place on there for trout on the ice that I know is by where the creek comes in in about 5 to 10 feet of water if the ice is safe.....

I found a lot of trout just South [upstream] of the boat ramp. Walk about 500 yards upstream and fish in 15' or less of water. The trout are all through the water column but most are on the bottom. Don't use too mush weight because the bite is very light and you may only see your line move side to side or even go limp when a fish is biting.

Fished Rockport on 01/06. Fished about 300 yds south of the boat ramp, caught a limit of perch mostly 8-9" but 4 were about 11" also 2 17" browns 6 planter rainbows and 2 smallmouth bass.

We fished Rockport yesterday too w/ no luck at all. We parked on the southernmost pulloff and walked straigh east from there. Have had great luck there in the past but didn't have any luck. Wind took it's toll on my young boy and we spent a lot time walking back and forth to the truck to warm up.

Had a good friend that fished the middle part of the lake w/ no luck at all too.

Happy fishing!!!!

[cool]Hey too bad you didn't have any luck there Saturday. I've had success there in the past, but I"ve noticed that that particular area is quite a bit shallower than the other areas on the West side, and this time of year, the perch are usually in 35-55 feet of water. The times that I've done best at that last (southernmost) turnoff is in late February into March when the perch are all schooling up down there because it's close to the river and also the shallows where they will spawn in March/April. Good luck to ya next trip out.

As for me, I went to THE ROCK YESTERDAY and worshipped with a friend (brand new to ice fishing-first time) at the "Church of the 7th-Day Angler." He went to his real church first so that permitted us from going earlier in the day (when the perch ice fishing is generally the hottest at the rock) so we got on the ice at 2:30. Stayed till dark. We went out to my usually West side locations that served me well last year, and first place we drilled we were marking perch on the bottom in 47 feet deep so we set up the shelter and started fishing. While he was setting up the shelter, I caught a perch almost immediately, but after we got into the shelter and starting jigging again the bite shut mostly down again (even though we were still marking schools of perch about every few minutes) until about 4:30 when I finally had had enough and was ready to go to another spot about 100 yards away, somebody rang the dinner bell and we got bites for the next half hour (although still not as many and as consistently as a typical morning outing there) and we iced three more perchies and a 'bow. Slow fishing, but I'm confident that if we had moved around a little more that we would have found a more active school of perch, and DEFINITELY if we were there earlier in my spots that we would have slayed them. I'm looking forward to going out there again soon but in the morning (usual) hours... The fish seemed to prefer wax worms over mealies and eyeballs yesterday for some reason, and that's the first time I've seen waxies outproduce the other two for perch.

As I've stated numerous times previously, There's probably only half the perch in the lake as there was before the dieoff that occured in Spring '05, but there's still enough of them in the lake that if you are there in the a.m. (when they are the most active), you have a fishfinder (know how to use it to spot the perch hugging the bottom), move around till you find the active schools, then you still have a great shot at getting your limit.

With that being said, however, I long for (and look forward to) the day when you drill a hole almost anywhere on that lake deeper than 30 feet and you were on top of a big school of perch and almost everyone out there got their limits of perch as long as they were on the bottom with their offerings. Ah, those were the days...
