My son and I went to Cleveland today just for fun, figured there would be no pressure and we were right there was nobody. The snow on the way down to the lake was pretty deep and made for a tiring climb out which is probably why there was nobody. We fished from 9 to 12:30 before the wind blew us off the lake. The fishing was awsome for 12 to 16 inch rainbows. We had bites within a minute of putting our lines down every time. Was a lot of fun for the six year old because I was so busy he had to do it all himself, I just took the fish off for him. I also caught two cutthroat that were 19 inches each, but I released them not knowing if the regulations were the same as Huntington or not. Turns out I could have kept them but I like rainbows just as much anyway, they're less mushy and easier to fillet. Would be a great place for snow shoes or a snowmobile. We fished in 30 feet of water but that's just because it was the first place we tried and didn't need to move. The fish would bite at any depth but we caught most about two feet off the bottom with a light green rat finkie and wax worm.

Thanks for the report. Not many reports on Cleveland Reservoir any time of year.

How thick was the ice?

The snow was only about 6 inches deep on the ice because most of it had turned to slush and froze. Altogether there was about 13 or 14 inches of ice and frozen slush to drill through. There was about 2 inches of slush under the snow that wasn't froze.

well i made it down to the ice yesterday and gave it a try.. now i rember why cleveland was one of my faverite ice fishing holes.. not becuse there is big fish in there.. becuse there realy not much chance of a realy big anything in there.. it's becuse i sat up there yesterday for 4 hours in my T-shirt getting a nice tan.. temp's never got above freezeing but with the sun shining and no wind wow!! great day to ice fish..
dont think today is going to be that nice tho.

well i did not do as good as you did but did stay stedy catching most the day. all rainbows looked to be planted in the fall becuse the fin's were stumps on alot of them.. still they looked to be in good shape and growing fat.. the waxfinky only got me 1 fish, of course it had to be the first one, the rest was on minnow's or parts of..

thanks for plowing the trail down! the snow and slush was all nice and hard going down the and back up the hill was a snap.. ok well as much of a snap as walking up a steep hill in 2 feet of snow at 9000 feet packing a 100lbs slead behind you can be! [sly]

I know someone who lives in the town of Cleveland between Huntington and Castledale. He fished Cleveland trolling from a boat in the fall and caught some real fat rainbows up to 18 inches. He sais his best success was on the northwest side of the lake. I may have to try it again now that there's a nice packed trail. Of course that could all change with tomorrows weather.
