So I went up to Porcupine on Monday for the first time. Me and a buddy went up there looking for kokanee but I got a story of a lifetime, (with a few kokanee).

Fishing with two poles and my new fish finder I couldn't find fish anywhere on the lake. But I finally got a bite on one pole and set the hook. I brought the fish up less then five feet before my line snapped. I was pretty upset since I had a new Kastmaster and rat finkee on the line that I lost along with the fish. But I began to tie on more hooks and keep an eye on the other pole despite my disgust. I jigged my pole in the water using my little jigger while I worked on the other pole. Just as I was about to drop the new hooks in the water I noticed a large line coming up from the bottom on the RTS. I watched the line connect with the line my jigs made on the finder and as they did I had a bite. Dropping the other pole I set the hook and bring up the heavy fish. As I pulled it out of the ice I couldn't believe how big it was. Then I noticed another fish had come up the hole with it. Not wanting to let the second fish get away I reached down to grab it but it slid back in the hole when I let some slack in the line from the first fish. So I pulled the first fish out again and there was the second fish still so I kept tension on the line and reached in the water and grabbed the fish when I realized it had a hook in its mouth also. Both fish were hooked on my line! I thought that was a cool double. But when I took the first hook out it had my previously lost kastmaster in its mouth! Looking at the other fish I found my rat finkee. Both fish had a hook from the lost line plus a hook on the line I pulled them out of the ice on.

I call that a double double!

Here are some pics of the two Brown trout
Wow. I need to fish with you. With my luck I would have lost all of the lures, plus my rod, my BigFish patch and gotten crapped on by a low flying bird.

I'm with you, but I with my luck I would look up to see what flew over and it would crap in my eye causing me to stumble and fall in an ice hole.
Great story, great fish.................................

Wow! That is quite a story.

Last year at the Berry a few friends of mine had both caught nice cuts over the slot, and I had not. We had caught roughly 30 fish each that day, so I figured I would go for something really big. I tied on a 4" tube with a whole 3" red shiner minnow. Within 30 seconds of dropping down I got slammed. In true Roland Martin fashion, I tried to set the hook and snapped the line. I was very frustrated. I tied the same rig back on, and again got hit hard. This time I hooked the fish and brought it in. Nice 23" cutt. I kept it.

When I got home and filleted it, I noticed the stomach had something large in it. I opened it up, and there was the tube and minnow I had lost on the first drop. The minnow was still on the hook. That fish flat out inhaled the 1st offering... and wanted more. [Tongue]

Right on! I knew we should've came over and introduced ourselves!
That's awesome you got your jig and kastmaster back! One of these days I hope to catch my first Koke out of Porcupine : ) Sounds like you guys got into them a bit!

But have you ever caught a fish skeleton or a flying bat? I've seen both, and wouldn't have believed it otherwise.

Looks like we're in for another series of strange fish stories. I might as well add one of mine. I was fishing one of my favorite spots on the Bear River for Brown trout, using a spinner. But that's not important. I hooked a nice 15 incher and decided it was time for a nice baked trout dinner. I think I saved this fish's life because when I cleaned it out I discovered that it had swallowed, at some point in the not to distant past, a stick that was about 6 inches long. It had a close resemblance to a large minnow, in shape. I would bet that the fish would have eventually died from having eaten the stick. Glad I was there to do it a favor.

Down at Powell this October 1 I caught a bass that threw up a bat!!! (winged type not baseball) and I also caught a seagull. seagull first ( the bass didn't throw up a Seagull; however that would have been one hell of a bass)!
By the way if you're interested in what I caught the seagull on it was a topwater plug with a VERY fast retrieve. No tournament points for the seagull. Anyone with a good seeagull recepit?
