Has anyone tried starvation yet with these cold temperatures? I am planning on heading out to visit my parents this weekend and would like to hit either starvation or pelican and was just wondering if anyone has fished starvation or knows what the ice conditions are?

[cool]Starvation is all the way capped (even in front of the dam). I got a good looksie at it last night on my way back from pelican. I don't know how thick the ice is out in the middle, but I do know that the bays have had a cap since last time I went to Pelican Dec. 26th. Haven't heard any reports as to how the fishing is going there right now, but go give it a shot Jed and let us know how it is!

You should do us a favor and hit Starvation for us. We need a good report. I was out there in the fall and caught some huge perch, the numbers were outrageous. I've never seen a fish population grow so big and fast. If you don't fish I would appreciate a pm from you on the ice conditions, it's too far of a drive just to check it out. Thanks.

Yea Wasatch801 and I were up there this fall and did pretty well on the Perch, we only managed to get 1 very very small walleye, but between the two of us probably caught about 80 Perch with a lot for them being pretty healthy size. Well I should say that Wasatch caught most I was just along for the ride. I would like to make a trip out there as well maybe when it warms up a few degrees. I really prefer it to be above 0.

I just need to figure out where to try and fish. I did well on the perch at the points at rabbit gulch, but I am not sure if they will still be there under the ice or if I should try elswhere. I guess if anyone has any advice on where the fish usually go under the ice that would be helpfull. If they are like the ones at jordanelle they will be deep. I am guessing around 30-40 ft.

I would guess the main lake points in 40'+ of water. The lake points in Indian Bay should be holding something....I hope. This was my only walleye last fall at Starvation. I couldn't keep the perch off my hook.

Normally when the ice comes on you need to find a little deeper water for the perch. I think the deepest water we found in the fall was about 25' or so at Rabbit Gulch. You may want to try and find deeper. [

the ice was 8-10 inch indian creek, did find some perch but they were on the move, couldn't find a consistant bite. they would come through every so often, no groups of stationary perch. fished in 58 ft of water, next time i am going to move more around the lake and not stay in one bay. had good hit unless they were babys(3inchers). most 8-10inches. i know there are bigger one out there just couldn't find them this time. used spoon and jigging rapala. side note 3 guys fishing the island at deer creek and one at rainbow bay. keep your ice scoop close because the hole were freezing quick, take a hut if you have one. hope this helps and good luck at starvation.

Well I should have gone to otter creek. We fished rabit gulch all over the place and drilled about 40 holes there and didn't even see a fish or get a nibble once we fished anywhere from 30-75 ft . we then went over to the dam side and drilled another 40 holes and finally found some dink perch (and I do mean dink they were only about 3-8 inchers) finally left around 4:00. It was a nice day as far as the sunshine goes though. Oh well I should have tried pelican or gone to otter creek with mike.

That's not the report I was expecting [mad], thanks for the report. What was the ice situation on the entire lake, all solid?

there was plenty of ice on the whole lake with the exception of a few slushy spots it was all anywhere from 6-14 inches,
