Fished with a newbie to ice fishing in Utah. Started fishing at 7:45 AM north of The Strawberry Marina in about 36' of water. Fishing was red hot until about 10:30 and then someone flipped the switch and the fish quit biting. We caught about 20 cutts, with the largest going 21 inches and lost several at the ice hole and to long releases. Packed up at about 11:45 and headed for Jordanelle. Fished in the Hailstone area on about 5 inches of ice. Fishing was red hot in 40 feet of water for mostly baby perches, with the largest going 9 1/2 or 10 inches. Got cold, windy and snowy in the late afternoon so we climed into my new Ice Cube, that arrived on Friday. It was nice to get out of the weather and it worked great.

Way to go, Kent and friend!
Question - in the first picture, the gentleman is holding the fish with a metal looking thingy. I see these often on BFT and, to show my ignorance, I don't know what it is. What is it? Can it be used to "gaff" the fishies when they make it to the surface? I could certainly go for that - that spot is where I often miss fish and get my hands cold.
Thanks!

That is a Berkley Lip Grip and BLM introduced them to me. They work great any time of year, and I have used mine to lift the fish out of the ice hole. Only problem is sometimes it takes awhile getting the fish to open its mouth. Also while ice fishing, they can get water in them and freeze, so the Lip Grip won't open.

Great report Kent!
I wish we would have followed you around! We went to the Ladders and even though a fun time was had by all, the fishing was very very slow.
Knowing you were near the marina, I tried calling you at about 8:30a.m. or so...but got Mrs. Kentofnsl instead...apparently I have both your home number as well as your cell programmed into my cell. After a nice chat with her, I tried your cell but no answer.
We just thought "Oh well, the fishing is probably slow over there also..."!
I also debated going to Jordanelle on the way home...wish I would have done that also!

Sorry that I didn't get your call on my cell phone. I realized that I had my phone out of my pocket for awhile, and if you called then I wouldn't have known that you called because it was on vibrate. I fished where I told you I would be.
