I know that there has been a lot written about the different styles of ice tents available. Has anyone tried a set up like this?? I want to eventually buy a "respectable" ice tent but until then I was wondering if something like this would work. It seem like it would atleast block the wind. This "tent" can be bought for about $30 bucks. Thoughts ?? Ideas??

Thanks to everyone for all of the great info on this site!!!

I think that a standard Strawberry afternoon breeze would turn that into a $30 kite...

But that might be fun too...PB

i fished out of one like that back in the day and we just pt out gear in it to hold it down

id put that 30 bucks towards the purchase of a real ice tent. ive fished out of a dome tent before. they dont handle high winds well, dont hold heat in, and break/tear too easily. i fished the berry today and the wind really started whipping. we didnt hardly feel a breeze in our quick flip III. its pricey, but if you like ice fishing, make the investment. (there are good ice tents you can get for pretty cheap... check out the thread on the ice cube vs the quick fish)

In a strong wind (assuming you were lucky and the wind didn't blow from the wrong direction and immediatiately turn it into a huge kite) the entire tent will bend over on top of you. Also, after the wind blows long enough, or the accumulation of several trips, the poles will break on you. I fish The Snake River several times each year, and this is in relatively warm weather, and it is a rare trip that someone doesn't have a pole break, because of the strong winds that we often experience, on a dome style tent while we are there.
