We hit Bear Lake yesterday and caught a few cisco and a couple of laketrout. The bite was pretty slow for the most part throughout the day. The cisco were in thick on the pile and you could snag a limit pretty quick. Seen BearLakeFishGuy out yesterday as well. Looks like he landed a couple of fish as well. All in all it was a great day to be on the ice at Bear Lake for the first time this year.
We fished from about 9:30 to 12:30 off the rockpile out deep. I landed two fish (yes, both pics are different fish) about 5-6 lbs each but I lost a better fish about 10lbs right under the ice. Just couldn't get his head turned up the hole and he came unhooked. Wish I would have had Rich's ice saw to make the "triangle hole". I also lost two other fish about the same size as the pictured fish. The guy I was with landed one fish. Cisco were still thick at Cisco Beach as of Tuesday morning.
A great thing happened on the ice yesterday. It proved there is a "fishing god" looking out for us. We walked out past most people off the Ideal Beach area. About 10 minutes after we drill holes and start fishing, out comes a guy on a brand, spankin' new snowmobile right close to where we were fishing. He begins doing "doughnuts" and spinning his machine. As I am thinking to myself he is an idiot because he has the rest of the lake to "play" on and he chose to be within 30 yards of where we were fishing....he spins the machine in yet another doughnut and hits a small pressure crack. It flipped the machine, threw him off where he landed flat on his back and it broke the "stop" knob on the handle bar of his brand new machine. YES...THERE IS A FISHING GOD. I watched the entire event and it was thing of BEAUTY! Crestliner also got to see it happen. I just wish I would have remembered to take some digital pics of that guy!!

Sweet pics!!! Macks are some of the prettiest trout!
And yes, thank goodness for the fish gods watching over you! Too bad that brand new snowmobile didn't fall through the ice!

[font "Arial"][red][size 3]Even with out a ice saw you can still make a triangle hole. You just have to cut the holes with a bit more on top of each other. It usually knocks of the jagged corners[/size][/red][/font].

[cool]Wow. Nice mac, dude. How much do you think he weighed? How many did you catch?

That fish my buddy caught was 8 pounds. He had one other that was pretty close to 8 as well.
Nice fish.... 8-9lbs? [

Nice reports Tom and Scott, thanks for posting them. Sounds like you both had a good day on the Bear. Is there still large open cracks in the ice?
[signature]
No cracks to speak of. Everything locked up really tight. However, with the cold days the ice is always "singing" and cracks can and will form at any time anywhere. Just gotta keep your eyes open for them.

Sunday some yahoo was hellin' across the ice on a snowmobile pulling an ice sled. He hit an uplift and scattered gear for 150' or so. We gave him and his buddy a hand and a few words of encouragment. Clap Clap Clap

I started out at the Marina and got a few cisco to fish with but found no willing fish at the Marina or the nearby rock pile.
I then moved to the Gus Rich pile and fished out of your holes after you left and had a good fish on briefly then it came unpinned and never got another fish. A rough day on the ice.
SOOOO good to hear the twit on the sled got trashed.

I just love when crap like that happens to show offs.

Scott
about how thick is the ice now? Was anyone fishing off of the marina? I will be there saturday with some friends and one of them
was wondering how thick the ice is; when it goes off like a gun
being shot, he acts like a high hurddler and takes off on a dead run for his life! I get a good laugh every time I take him.
If you know, talk about it; If not; Shut up![shocked]

I was at the marina on Tuesday last and found variable ice from 6 to 10 inches. Had a couple of ice shifts that moved 2-3 inches. A little nerve racking when that happens.
